Fuse Box Wiring
« on: April 01 2009, 10:27:53 AM »
Just curious how people are powering their accessories.

I have the following that need power:

SMC Alcohol Control
Scanmaster
Tachometer
Casper's Audible Knock Alarm

I just realized that I have one of them plugged into a battery port and it must be causing a constant drain so I need to change that today.

As far as the IGN ports, is it alright to splice two accessories into one port?

The scanmaster and audible knock just get ign power (very little draw)
As for the SMC kit you'll want to be a little more creative and set up a relay
for your pump. (probably included in the kit w/ directions)

Yup. I have an ANS knock alert and my Scanmaster hooked up to the IGN ports on the fuse box. I wouldn't splice two into one.
My 1958 Mamiya can beat up whatever camera you just wasted your money on.

all the ign ports share a common fuse so it really does not make any difference.

A lot of broken parts does not make you a racer; it makes you a slow learner.

I have a first generation (the non-progressive) SMC kit.  It was installed years ago and I don't think there is a relay, I think it's just getting it's power from the fuse box.  IDK for sure, I didn't install it.

As for the battery ports, if something is wired into a battery port will it cause a constant drain even with the key off?

It should not as long as it does not draw any current while the device is off.
