Finally, Damn It!
« on: March 06 2009, 03:05:06 PM »
After 13 months, I managed to get all four bolts off the brake booster in my '69!!  And, I did not take the hood off, pull the engine, and remove the wiper motor.  That would have been far too easy.  I only lost one wrench which ain't bad altho' it was the 9/16" ratcheting box end that I bought especially for this one job.  Rather I bought a whole friggin' set because that seemed cheaper than buying just the one I needed...

Not too shabby for an old man with one eye and a mini mag lite!

Now to pull the two wiring harness and clean up what I can before I put in the new wires, try to remember where they all hooked, and all the new brake stuff.....damn, just depressed myself. :flat;

A lot of broken parts does not make you a racer; it makes you a slow learner.

unit is on the ground so pics are not much use.

The four studs that retain the booster to the firewall are blocked by the back of the booster...so there is not much room to get a wrench on them.

The top two are easy, but the bottom two are hidden by the the top two and there is little room to move the wrench once it is on the nuts.

As you have to reach between the hood and the firewall and the studs are not readily visible it complicates the matter...then the fact that the wrench can only move an 1/8 turn at a time just serves to piss you off.

I got the easy two off last year and then got pissed and walked off.  Got one off yesterday and one off today.

It does not mount like our Regals..or it would have been a 15 minute job.

I am unmoved by your pain, and untouched by your sorrow,
If I know me (and I do)
I will feel the same tomorrow

Yes, that is a bitch. I removed the brake booster in a 69 a couple years ago, so
that we could re-paint the fire wall.

*L* my own hard head does not help...but if the studs came out of the booster and went thru the firewall, it would be a lot easier.....
