New toy for the wife
« on: July 03 2007, 09:24:13 AM »
Smoked her a$$ too  She had to eat buick burnout
Well it's her toy that I get to work on
1980 Corvette with a L48 auto (she can't drive a stick) 133k miles Runs good but needs some work. I got it for less than the 86 before all the parts. It needs new seals, door panels, carpet, driver seat cover and odds and ends. Off to get tune up stuff and vac lines. (If I don't have enough to work on) Can you tell she's happy..that's what really matters  :supz:

Yeah, they're fun to work on, but they can't touch a Buick.

...and color coordination is a must.

Yes Color coordination is a must..
I think it has a 84 engine block in it, the brown valve covers and dip stick is on the right side. Changed a bunch of vac lines, changed the oil and put a new air cleaner on it. Still need to do the tune up but that'll have to wait untill I got back home in a couple of weeks.

congrats on the vette.  http://forums.corvetteforum.com can be a great help in working on it. There are a lot of knowledgeable people there.  If you run into any problems on anything just pm me and I will try to help ya out. C3s are fun but very fickle creatures.

ah heater probs ... well easiest way to access the vac lines to the heater is to remove the glove box insert.  you will see them located above the upper right corner of the heater box. there is a vac tee that has a nasty habit of coming loose and that could be your problem.  As for headlights ..most likely either the coffee can vac chamber is full of pin holes or the actuators seals have dry rotted.  Coffee can is located infront the radiator.  Btw once you get the vac to the actuator there is an over ride switch located below the steering column to check also .. pull the knob down and the headlights will always stay up ...no matter if the headlights are on or not.

If I didn't score my GN, I was going to buy a '79 Vette. If i didn't liek that, I had my eyes on a 72 Charger, 4 speed 440.

I have to say I love the flares on that generation of Corvettes.
My 1958 Mamiya can beat up whatever camera you just wasted your money on.

I just had a funny thought, Jims wife + the  burnouts she loves to do = lots of money spent on tires.
