You take a 2200 lb car and put some power under the hood and they will move.  The stock engine which in the older ones are say 120-135 hp and crank it up to 225 and it will run all day long without a problem.  Weak point is the factory clutch.  Put much more to it and it will eventually break.  Swap a bigger engine from some other Japanese car and turbo it and suddenly you are 400 hp or so and you have a serious contender.

Next up is a v8 swap and the sky is the limit.  Someone put a hellcat crate engine in one recently and that is just plain insanity.

Stock, with some suspension work  and few cars will keep up with you on a short curvy course.  I no longer have the balls to push one to the limit LOL

The short wheelbase makes them a little hairy with power. Nowadays it's not hard to get Shelby Cobra power/weight ratios (or higher!), but the car just becomes a burnout, drift, spinout machine.

They are just fun to drive.  It's hard to gain much over the stock power.  Traditional stuff like exhaust, cool air etc., might get you three hp.  LOL  Put a megasquirt on and remove the maf and a good tune might get you ten.

Superchargers were fairly popular at one time but they tend to lose some of the drivability.  Mild turbos will get you over 200 reliable hp and in a 2200 lb car that is a lot of added pop.

Do some suspension work, add good tires, and there is not much that can turn inside of you on a tight curve and that is where the real fun is.

The worst thing about them is that no one notices you in a land of jacked up trucks, etc.  It is like riding a bike in the land of giants. :045::026:

The 240Z's were great cars.  then they started making them bigger, heavier, and so on and they lost their character.  I've seen transplants in 240's but they are just rare cars and it's a shame to mess with one if you can find it.

His head was on a swivel!

Steve...bring the Miata up here. On Mix n Match nights for 30 bucks you can run either the drag strip...or the road course...all.. .night...long.

I've heard the weakness is the rear end once you start making any real power. He used a modified CTS one.

I'm surprised they hold as much power as they do...rear end is basically tiny but it's strong.  there is one out there running really well with a GM v6 LFX.  I think it has a CTS rear in it as well.

Seems to be a common swap - there's a bunch of aftermarket kits for the conversion.
