Chimes and buzzers 2
« on: July 17 2018, 10:01:11 PM »
I have had a look at an old post (2014) about the chime on 87 Grand National for key in ignition and lights left on. It was said to fight your way under and behind the dash. 2 questions... if I understand does the same box operate the chime for when the key is in and when the lights are left on? 2nd quest...what color and approx size is the box(chime)?thank you for any help anyone can be with this

It's a bit smaller than a pack of cigarettes as I recall.  Yes, it dings when the key is in the ignition switch and you open the door.  I think one of mine dings for the lights on..not sure about the other.

Here's a picture from the manual fo the location..just to the right of the column looking from the cabin at the dash...It clicks into the connector.  I forget what it took to unsnap it from the connector.  I think a screwdriver to lift a tab on the connector.

thank you so much for the quick reply, but since very little is identified in the picture. Is it the box to the right of the column area that is labeled convenience center?

Yes. Convenience center. It's a pain to get out laying on your back. Good luck!

First mod I do to every car I've ever own is to yank that damn thing out.

Since I pulled mine in '98, I can't recall where I found it, but....

...the stick to find the buzzer is to lay under the dash and start squeezing boxes.  When you find the buzzer, you'll know it because it'll sound like it has a cold.

Then just yank the stupid thing out.
