Control Arms for front suspension

Mostly I'm looking at the upper arms. I re-read the charlie poor mans thread. I decided to start another thread and not add to his out of respect. link if you haven't seen that thread before. http://www.ihadav8.com/forum/index.php?topic=3268.0


Any way, I found these ub machine arms. Looks like they vary in price.

They don't mention a left and right so I'm thinking you just flip over to use on the other side. And from the Charlie thread I need a 1/2" longer ball joint. I'm off to search for that. Any suggestions are welcome.

Jason mentioned he had replaced his upper arms as they saved weight. So I thought, Yeah, I want to save weight. And just pulling old and replacing with these seemed like an easier project than trying to remove, press out old, press in new, and reinstall ended up being a lot of work in my mine. And these arms at $35 ea and some ball joints seemed like a good option.

It appears the mfg has a pretty good handle as the price looks to be $49.99 or about everywhere except rock auto but they are out of stock.

I didn't really want a "low friction" unit as I do drive mine, a lot, so I want it to be reliable.

Anyone have thoughts or other ideas? Thanks

I went with the pro forged 1/2" taller upper ball joints and kept the stock height lower ball joints in my set up. UMI's upper adjustable A arm with rod ends & their lower tubular control arms with delrin bushings. Couldn't be happier with how the car handles now!  I'm sure that the QA-1 coil overs front and rear + the HR rear bar help contribute to the rock steady feel as well.

$500? -big difference between $500 and $35, way out of my snack bracket

Yeah, doesn't make my budget but does work well according to many places I've read. I went ahead an pulled the arm and out the new rubber bushings in the upper. They were pretty shot. I'm leaning toward the 1/2" taller b/j but at $100 plus shipping I'm going to have to work that into he budget too. I've got a full f/e overhaul to do on our 94 suburban. It isn't going well as in not bein able to get the wheel off. GusszGS said hit it with sledge hammer so I soaked it down in pb blaster and gave it some whacks with a 2x6 on the tire with the lugs loose and the jack under the a arm. No luck yet but I am hopeful.

On to the pix of the T arm bushings. I went ahead and made up a shield to cover the new bushing. Still have to pull the manifold and replace as it is cracked too. Never ending. Up side I pulled the carb on our 2 cycle tiller and got it squared away. As luck would have it, the rain came so I didn't get to run it.











I hope it doesn't rattle too much. We will see. Gotta get a new boot for the b/j as I wrecked it taking it off. This is where the idea that the 1/2" taller joint so I can put them in instead so I don't have to take it apart twice.
