Does the PL on your laptop work in his car? If his laptop has 8.1...then go to the other board and follow Bobs instructions.

Keith...for some stupid reason...PL only works on one port on my laptop. Have you tried both ports...or however many it has?

Prolly the 8.1. I noticed a lot of guys are having trouble getting it to work with PL. I have a separate laptop strictly for the track...with..
.wait for it...XP loaded on it.

Your laptop doesn't work in his car. So what happens when you swap out your PL board on his ECM and try with your laptop? I just ran into this problem a couple weeks back in another guys car.

I really dont want to do that. the Pl must be working the scan tool has the extra data and is quicker, and when I turn the key off the light on the PL blinks.

the CD that came with the new PL didnt have the drivers for the port, So I used my CD to load the drivers and had to dig thru my computer to manually initialize a port.
