EGR keep or delete
« on: October 02 2014, 10:32:57 AM »
While I'm working on this, whats the scoop. TT chip dosent use it, can I make a block off plate or should i just keep it where it is?

Also want to clean up some things. I dont use the wastegate soliniod, if I unplug that will it throw a code? Same question on the EGR soliniod. If i can eliminate them and just hide the plugs it would clean up the look but I dont want it to screw something up.

Thanks!!

Be sure there is zero leak when you remove the egr.  I usually put a thin smear of high temp rtv around the edges before clamping the block off plate down.

No problem removing the solenoids. Code is disabled in the chip

If you're good with a drill motor, it's not a bad idea to drill and tap a couple of small screws between the ports to help with the clamping.    It's just too much mechanical leverage on that one bolt down low to expect 100% seal 100% of the time.

I never understood why the egr is usually programmed to be inop on aftermarket chips.
If it doesn't rob horsepower, and saves fuel at idle, what's the harm?

It's ugly, and there's a lot more places for potential vacuum leaks.

It is not operative at idle,  only during cruise.  Makes it easier to manipulate fueling at part throttle if you get it out of the way

Oh yeah!   Cruise. .
that's what I meant.....lol!
makes sense to me then.
Thanks Steve!

and yes it is ugly.
I left the brass plug in mine from the earl brown mod and put the egr back on to dummy it for stock appearing

i have seen the egr hole drilled and plugged. it looked pretty good too.
Thats the way i will go if i ever pull my intake manifold off

That's my intake. To install a pipe plug, you really need a milling machine to make that square hole round.
