Yay! Someone tried to steal my car AGAIN.
« on: April 30 2006, 10:02:56 AM »
I was reading Earl Brown's thread, then MeanBuicks thread...

Some azzhole tried to steal my car a few weeks ago..

I was going to take her to my buddies to fix a few things. Opened the door, and wondered what all the crapm was on the driver's side floorboard. Ten I relaized it was parts from my steering column.  :angrymou:

Took a look, they completely smashed to lower left hand section of the column, rendering it useless.

After looking around to see how they got in, I went around and looked at the passenger side diir, and saw they punched out the lock from the bottom. From the looks of it - they knew what they were doing.

Column: http://ihadav8.com/phpBB2/album_pic.php?pic_id=174
Floorboard: http://ihadav8.com/phpBB2/album_pic.php?pic_id=172
Door lock: http://ihadav8.com/phpBB2/album_pic.php?pic_id=177
Door lock 2: http://ihadav8.com/phpBB2/album_pic.php?pic_id=176

And they were nice enough to punch out my trunk lock a few months ago:

I'm really starting to hate apartment life.

Keep an eye out for a WTB thread.. This is the THIRD steering column I will be putting in.

Thanks for the space to rant.

Kill switches. One for FP, and one for the ECM.

Hey S6, please edit your post incase they come to this site and see why they failed. They may be back. Kinda weird that they tried to steal it when you were suppost to be in Vegas. Maybe theres a connection?

It was funny, TopSpeed and I logged in and when I saw this post I said "I bet thats Lepizzle"...all because you started with "yay".

That sucks. I absolutely hate thieves. They are absolutely the lowest
form of life. I can also tell you that they didn't know exactly what they were doing.
Thats the work of an amateur, not a professional. I also agree with Be4u about posting details, so I won't elaborate. I may also have a black column from a Monte SS kicking around in my shed. I'll have to look first to see if I still have it, and
then figure out how to go about shipping it. As for the trunk lock, have Be4u
send you a pic of what he has.

Beau - I doubt they're smart enough to know how to use the Internet, much less find this small board.

And they won't find the switches anyway.

Thanks for the offer, Rob, I may take you up on it.

I'm not TOO close with Brian, so I don't know if I'll be getting any parts from him.

Also - the trunk lid needs to be replaced, even if I had a lock cylinder, it wouldn't fit. They also damaged the internal trunk release mechanism. I can open the trunk, it's just not right.

S6, I was talking with Jim last night (ttype83) he corrected me on the time they tried to get your ride. I misread your post and thought they tried to get it this weekend. Doh!

The paint isn't as bad as the reflection of the guy holding a
phone is.  :rofl;

S6, my old column isn't perfect (the reason I replaced it), but if you need a temporary one let me know- it's yours. It steers, but the brights/signals don't work.

I found the Monte column. Everything on it worked when I pulled it from the car.
You'd just have to paint it to match.
