Boost Problem....HELP !!!
« on: January 13 2013, 06:55:38 PM »
When I floor it at speed in third gear (50-60mph) it shots up to 19-20lbs (where I have it set) and pulls like a freight train. Then all of a sudden it starts to studder and the boost drops down to zero and it makes that intercooler sound like when you pop your foot off the gas. It doesn't do it all the time, but it also will do it if you ease into boost.

I have two adjustable wastegates controlled from inside the car and it locks my boost where I set it.
My hood mounted fuel pressure guage stays at 60+lbs even when this happens so I know it's not fuel.

It always ran fine but I did explode my turbo side hose on my front mount racing my sons Hennesey Viper GTS @130mph @ 25lbs of boost a few weeks ago. (I have Razors Kit on my car that works fine) That hose was replaced with a good 6ply elbow hose.

The other hoses that are on the Turbo-Intercooler-Throttle Body are old but seem O.K.
My intercooler hasn't been cleaned out in years, could I be sucking up oil?
I hope I didn't hurt the Turbo racing my son.

HELP....any Ideas ???????

You better go find Mr. Baker....

Are the vacuum lines zip tied to the vacuum block on top of the plenum?  Last time this happened to me, I was well above 25 psi and the hoses were popping off.  Not sure I lost all the boost, tho...

Also, be sure the hose between the intercooler pipe and the plenum is not slipping back....that used to be a problem if one ever got any oil on the hose.  I have lost all boost in that case

A lot of broken parts does not make you a racer; it makes you a slow learner.

We were going to a very early morning cruise and we went at it on a highway with no one around.
My sons Viper is stupid fast being one of those Hennessey Venom 650hp conversions. We went at it from a 30-40mph roll as he has no traction below that. It was a good side by side run until my hose exploded. I would say it was a draw but my son thinks he won.

I'm running drag radials and would slaugther that snake from a dead stop.

Any update here?  Did a hose literally explode/blow-out (never heard of that@ <30 psi)? Steve was on the right track re: hose poping off IC to TB (stock setup)...If you have a front mount, then there are more possibilities to pop a hose loose both in & out of FMIC.  I once went to silicone hoses (expanding blue-theme under hood) & SS t-clamps & they apparently didn't tighten enuf (bottoming out), & popping loose after several runs (24# boost).  As high boost lets off, the hose(s) tend to slip back on & don't create a prob @ normal lower boost operation.  I went back to original type hoses & clamps & sold the "slicker" silicone stuff.
