Hellwig rear sway bar
« on: July 16 2012, 03:23:23 PM »
I installed this this weekend, where should I set the adjustable end links? The instructions dont really say anything other that put in end holes. You can adjust the length of the end links by quite a bit. I have them as short as possible now????

I would have guessed the middle hole would have been the best all around...if it is not tail happy as it is...should be okay

Did you have to cut the endlinks down to get the bar closer to parallel? If not this will significantly effect rate.

You should start at the outter most holes and work your way inward to tune the bar to your application.

I didnt do anything yet, the instructions suck for "tuning " info, as in you get none. Is that what I want is getting the bar parallel. It points slightly down at the front ends now. The adjustable links are as short as they go and mounted in the end holes. If i move them to the middle hole it would level it up some.

Thanks!!!

Well there is a little more to the theory they simply being parallel. Basically you want the endlink mounting hole to be inline with the section centreline of the "under the pumpkin" portion of the swaybar. This would point the front of the swaybar arms down... so if you are slightly down already you are good to go. But, again you want to tune to taste/needs.

No real direct answer. It all depends.  Condition and rate of your springs and shocks, wear in all your front end and rear bushings and the power you engine/ trans is putting to the rear wheel.  Also is it for drag racing, autoX or street driving. All above will determine what hole works best.  As Steve said start in the middle.  Get a base launch 60ft time then try to move up or down. One of the position will work best. Same with street driving feel and autoX.  Not to confuse you but road/track  condition will add into this also.  Go out and have fun with it :D

As will tire type/size/inflation....

I reckon it is right when you can go 40 mph, stomp the e brake and spin the steering wheel, and do a 180 on a two lane road without touching the curb

A sway bar and stabilizer bar's job is to control body roll. Adjust accordingly.

With this sway bar and the energy suspension bushings all around this thing is SOOOOOO much nicer to drive. For sure worth the work. Also love the peace of mind with the vacuum brakes now!

Thanks for the help guys!! :atbeer:
