Best Flat Tappet Lifter?

One thing I took away from my choice was what Steve said about GM lifters being hardened. I have the HT969 model I think.

HT969 are Sealed Power lifters.   I hear Johnson lifters is back in business and making them for everybody. But are they as good as before

I think I said they had a Stellite  base...

Today, I would try the TA Performance lifters which are reputed to be hardened...may be nitrided?

would not be surprised to find they are made by Johnson as they show some Johnson lifters for the v8

I ordered a TA set when they had the sale....

The lifters changed but the part numbers didn't....

Johnson made the original lifters for the GN part number 959 (much like sealed powers).

the problem is that the stellite foot is no longer there, modern oil sucks, cam blanks suck, and flat tappet cams belong in a museum not an engine.

you still have to do some machine work to the block if you change to roller cam and lifters, correct?

for some cams, maybe..others were designed for a straight install-I have not been paying attention to them lately to know which can be installed without any mods.  I think they all still have to have the spacing adjusted.

the biggest problem with roller cams is the cost.  If installing a comp flat tappet, I would pay the extra for the nitriding...an d used a hardened base lifter
