I remember going through parts of Texas when I was ~13 or so, and seeing cash gas pumps. Like 2 lone pumps, in the middle of nowhere, that took cash.

Out Van Horn way even a cow would be a welcomed site.

Texas is a great place despite all the ribbing I give it. Very truck friendly and wifi at all rest stops.
