My computer sucks !

My fuckin' computer won't keep time when its shut down. It screwed up
on Friday. It defaulted to Sept 1996. It lost the video card settings, the monitor settings, installed a different type of mouse that wouldn't work, and the sound card still won't work.  
I replaced the battery on the mutha board. And I get a CMOS error on startup.
I then go into the CMOS and set the clock and then it'll continue booting up.
During boot up, I have to hit ctrl,alt,del to end task on Cteaxspl (a sound card
program) that locks up during boot up. After all that, I can use the computer
like before with the exception of having no sound.

It really sounds like the battery for the CMOS.  Did you check the replacement battery to make sure it is good?

Ack.. You might be able to get rid of the Creative driver by uninstalling the drivers, look around and see if there's a removal tool for that version. You can also search the registry for that filename and delete any refferences to it, then search the HDD for the file and delete it too. NOTE - IF YOU BLOW UP YOUR COMPUTER DOING THIS - I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE!

How long has it been since you completely reinstalled the OS? Windows is like a car - the oil needs to be changed once in awhile - I do a complete reinstall every 1-2 years. You will be amazed how much faster the PC will be too.

I'll have to bring home a DVM and check the battery.
The OS is win 98SE. Probably 2 years old on the install.
I have it to a point where I can back up the files I want.
I suppose a new install would help. I turned off the
Creative program in msconfig, and it boots normally
for the time being with the exception of the CMOS checksum error.
