Next Victim - 04 Cadillac Escalade
« on: December 29 2022, 09:49:05 PM »
This is what my buddy bought to drive while I was working on his Denali. Main complaint - coolant smell but no visible evidence of leaks.
Back story - this came from a shady dealership but was cheap enough to take a risk on. He's driven it for a month and other than replacing the brakes it's been good.
And yes it is the special plaitnum edition -   - it is a legit platinum edition but at least spell it right.
Diagnosis so far - water pump is leaking, and it appears the coolant tank is full of stop leak. This could be a mess  :icon_fU:

Couple of neat things I found. AC compressor is locked up, it destroyed the clutch and the belt too.

That compressor clutch died a slow death.. I wonder if the WP pulley/shaft/bearing got dinged when the clutch seized at speed.

Good call - the water pump pulley appears to be out of round.
I got the system flushed and rinsed and finished the teardown - waiting on parts to show up from Summit.
I also fixed his backup camera. I was originally in a license plate frame, but that was in pieces - so I mounted it up under the bumper to keep it out of the way.

It's back together just waiting for some new plug wires. I threw on some spares to fill/bleed the coolant and took it for a test drive. While it was here he was complaining about how the 6.0 is lazy compared to the 6.2, so I made some adjustments in the computer to help it out. It runs pretty well for a big ole girl. Once the wires show up I can swap them and reinstall the engine covers - and it won't be my problem anymore.
