Considering an SD2 chip and all that
« on: January 08 2021, 09:46:06 AM »
I've been looking at picking up a used sd2 chip and such to run in the beater I picked up. It doesn't have a computer so I thought this might be the poor guys way to get it to tuning and such. I have minimal experience with hptuners and have watched YouTube vids on timing and such.

Anything I should be aware of when trying this out?
Looks like it would come with the chip, possibly a powerlogger and a computer . Seller sez it is setup for 80lb injectors but I am thinking I want to try some e85 so I might want some 120s not sure yet.

Thanks for the input.

If you have a good pump that flows well at 90psi bump the base fuel pressure from 3 to 4 bar 58-60psi). Then the 80s are 96lb/hr. That’ll support nearly 600rwhp. It’d still require a reburn from the 3bar fuel pressure but let you use the injectors
Edit: on E85 - you can always drop to a lower percentage of Ethanol to get a little more out of them.

Rich, if the price is right, I think it is a good way to go.   It will run well right out of the box if you can find a set of 80s cheap to go with it.

I am going to see about it. Looks like I need a wide band to go with according to the instructions and the larger injectors.
It doesn't have the safeties of an ecugn or the like but I haven't had any safeties yet so I will just have to be careful.
The seller is to give me a call and discuss it .

To use the tuning aspect, you will need the wide band.  I'm pretty sure that you can modify the base tune with a nb sensor just like the sd1 but you cannot tweak tables, etc without the wideband so learning to tune as you are interested is out the window.

One of my cars still does not have a wb with the sd1 that is installed.  I need to do something about that, I guess LOL

I got the seller to give a number on the sd2, computer, wide band and a sensor for that so I think that would get me running. I would need a set of 80lb injectors so I could do some e85 and maybe do like nocooler suggested to get the fuel into the engine.
I'm thinking it over as it is about a third of the cost of a ecugn. Seems like a good deal.

the alternative is a megasquirt 3 plug and play but it will not come with a tune installed...so you will have to start from zero unless we could get william avila or Nick Bolton to give you a starting program to work off.  I think that is about 1/3 cheaper than the ecugn

I think that is what the seller went to. Maybe I need to ask for a discount if it is the same money and has the safeties
