No I have not tried that but the noise only happens while moving with throttle applied or when foot brakeing.

Take a piece of hose 2 feet long and hold it to your ear, and rest the other end around the intake and vale covers and touch the throttle a few times, if the noise get's louder you'll hear it, then you know it's in the valve train.
