Scanmaster G-Quicker Sampling?
« on: July 23 2017, 08:11:10 AM »
Does the new Scanmaster G have quicker sampling than the old SM? I realize it does a bunch of 'cool guy' stuff...but if it ain't any quicker...then I have no use for it. If so...then I could sell my SM to offset the cost. It would be an inexpensive upgrade. Eric has the writeup on his site...but it has nothing on the speed it works at. Maybe I'll do a search on the other site...maybe Bob did a writeup on it when it was released.

Brad, when it is used like a stand alone Scanmaster without PL, it will have the same sample rate as the scanmaster because it is limited by the data rate coming thru the the ALDL feed which gives about a sample every 1.5 seconds.

I think it can also be used with the PL.  In that case, the Scanmaster updates about 5 times a second as I recall as compared to the 20+ on the PL.  Bob said he chose 5 because the eye could not see any faster than that.  I would assume that the G does the same.

Thanks Steve, I'll stick with what I have. Not pissing money away for 'cool guy' features.

Brad, I have the G and it does sample faster than the old SM with the PL but does not when using just the scan master alone. It's a lot smaller and fits nicely in a guage pod. Way easier to read and with PL, you can download the logs from it. Bob claims wireless capability with it but I have yet to be able to make that part of it work with my laptop.

Thanks Jason. It would be used as a stand alone...so it isn't worth it for me. If my SM ever dies...then I'll grab the G version.

Did you get the upgrade chip for the SM with the PL, Brad?

One can get their chip burned with a patch that replaces other fields ( injector dur, I think) with 02s thus doubling the standalone (non PL) display rate. I believe the SM is programmed to recognize such a patch.
