How much are drop spindles going to hurt me.
« on: April 13 2015, 12:50:49 PM »
My car spends 90% of its life as a cruiser if I install drop spindles how bad is it going to be at the track?
I have old wore out springs in the back and new 5606 springs up front it looks like an old gasser.
I like how the rear sits rolled lip with the tires tucked a little stock wheels 275/60/15 nittos.
86 white T type with t tops and blackout trim. 60lb injectors Gen 2 with Extender Chip TR6 ignition 212/206 roller cam Turbonetics BB CPT 61 CAS V4 Intercooler Cobbled together Alky Injection 4 inch MAF pipe with integral sensor
2800 stall lots of fun with a little 6 banger!

Can't imagine it is going to impact weight transfer that much.

You will move the weight bias forward thus reducing the weight transfer at launch.
On the other hand... With the lower front end and the rear already riding low, you will flatten the thrust line.  With a set of rear upper adjustable control arms and the rear lower control arms almost sitting horizontal at the lower ride height, you will be able to fine tune the instant center with weight relocation and adjusting the UCA's mounting position.  Most likely you will have to upgrade the rear springs as the instant center only works at the moment you  launch.  The rest of the hook comes from the suspension

Larry...put the boost to that 61...and you'll more than make up for any loss you may encounter on your short time.

You will also have some bump steer issues.

why? (or why more than stock, I should say)

I was thinking of getting a set and running taller springs and taller upper balljoints just to get the roll center up and improve the camber gain.

The dropped spindles don't correct any issues but aggravate them because all they do is move the shaft up. Look at your knuckle and the angles where the shaft is and then imagine just moving the shaft up without keeping it in the same plane.

just chop a 1/4 turn of the top coil of the spring and put 28" tires on the back...it will be perfect...

Gavin! stop asking questions that you already know the answer to!:D

Thats a good thing, IF you run taller springs to maintain the ride height. The drop spindles raise the steering arm with the pin (just like your taller balljoints, without the negative bumpsteer affect).
