fuel mileage
« on: September 01 2013, 01:57:45 PM »
Every-time I work on one of our newer bucket trucks it makes me laugh when you go through the dash settings to see the average fuel mileage on them.  They bought gas powered f-450's instead of diesels to save money on the original price of the truck.

At my work I drive a Chev pickup with a 4.3l V6 and it's mileage is worse than my own 4.8L V8 GMC.  We put a LOT of miles on our trucks, from the end of October until mid April we run our trucks 24 hours a day / 7 days a week so we use LOTS of fuel.

can't remember why the check engine lite was on but it was something silly and unhooked.  Nothing that would make it drink fuel that bad.   My employer has a few hundred of these trucks with 37 foot ladders on the roof and they are all about the same for fuel mileage.  They generally fill them every day or every other day depending how far they are driving for the day.   I'm sure our monthly fuel bill with 11k light duty trucks must be a horrifying sight.
