Aren't the 84/85 covers the same as 86/87 minus the vent hole on the PS cover?

the 86/87 valve covers are slightly faster.
add about 3/10's in the quarter-mile.    :D

lol!  yes, the same except the breather hole on the pass side one, like you mentioned, and if I recall correctly, the oil fill hole on the driver side is slightly fore or aft of the 86/87's.  I'll double check tonight

remember that the stock oil fill tube on the hot airs also had a port soldered onto it for the blow-by.
I'll post pics tommorow or next day

I am wrong about the driver side valve cover.   it is the same as the 86/87's.
maybe it was the the differant oil fill tubes that was making me think that.

let me do a search tonight and try to see what a stock set of covers usually bring.
I dont have any of  the hot air twist on oil fill tubes, but they are very inexpensive and easy to come by

here is a pic of the nastyest sluttyest filthyest dirty little whore of the 2 sets.
That is just hi-temp gray paint on them.  easy to remove if desired.
It looks like the average going rate for a set of 86/87 valve covers is about 50 bucks.  so how about $45 shipped? Shipping is getting flat out ignorant these days.  It will probably cost me $12 just to ship them :013:

I actually use the hot air vc's on my 87.
most folks usually put a k&n oil breather on the pass side hole and cap the inlet bell port.
with the ha covers, you can eliminate any oil mess up in that area.
I installed the ha oil fill on the driver side and just run a hose down the side on top of the frame with the k&n oil filter on the end of it.
any oil blowby can just lube the frame down by the brake proportioner.  course, my car haveing only 54,000 miles and still a good tight engine, theres not much blowby.  probably just when under boost, I would guess.
its not the prettyest, but a trade-off, sorta.

or heck...didn't even think of this.
Earl, I can just send you a set if your still wanting them, and you can knock some money off one of your timing covers the next time you do some more.
I'll just pay you the differance

When do you need a cover? I can knock one out when I get home from Florida.

Now that's it's about freezing (and less than 110*!) I've been doing covers the last couple weeks.

well I screwed up on this one,  :rolleyes;
I had listed these valve covers for sale on the tb site.  A guy local in the buick club saw it there today and wants a set of hot air and Ic'd covers.  I tell him no problem and he comes over after work and give me $100 cash for both sets.
I figure the remaining hot air set is probably going to go to you, earl, so I went upstairs to get them out and put in my car in case I might ship tommorow.  but when I took them out of the box I was keeping these in, they wheren't a hot air set, but a stock 86/87 set.  so now I'm racking my tiny little brain trying to figure out how I have a 86/87 set?  I used to have a abundance of hot air parts, not Ic'ed parts.  I have no idea how that happened.  first signs of getting old I guess.
so sorry about that.  Earl, if you still want a set, I don't think you'll have any problem getting a set if you do a wtb ad on the tb sites.
I still would like to buy a timing cover from you, but I won't be ready for one till this fall.

so here is update to the ad.
I have one set of 86/87 stock valve covers remaining for sale (see pic).  $65 shipped to the lower 48.
I can remove the paint and send them bare aluminum if desired.

SNAP!!!!
it just hit me right in the face!
I just remembered that a couple years ago I did the same mod I described above on my 87, I also did to kristina's (gngals) car.  that explains the differant color paint.  I had just switched out the pass side and took hers and put it in my valve cover box.
her car got totaled last year, but she kept the engine, and the last time I was at her place the engine was on a stand in the corner of her garage.  I bet that valve cover is probably still on it.
Earl, if your still interested, I gotta meet up with kristina sometime in the next few days for some girl scout cookies she owes me.
If that cover is still on it, I'll ask her if I can swap it back out.  If your not interested, I'm just gonna sell this last set as a 86/87 set.
lmao!! what a mess!   I had just updated the ad on tbcom site too
