engine assembly
« on: June 03 2012, 11:53:35 PM »
Been six long months but finally got my new engine.  The engine is held in place by the motor mounts only at present.  I've got the job of finishing assembly to the long block.  I had the transmission rebuilt several months ago and the shop advised I get the motor in and just have it idle and then the shop will install the trans and make all adjustments to the TV cable.

Is it safe to do it this way or should the trans be bolted in place before I attempt to start the engine?

You can do it that way if you wish.  Not sure why there is a reason not to install the tranny and adjust the tv cable with the factory procedure, tho.  That would take the load off the mounts a bit.

A lot of broken parts does not make you a racer; it makes you a slow learner.

Just make sure the flexplate is clear of all hanging wires, linkage and harnesses.  I see no reason not to put the trans in.  Fill it up, adjust the linkage and tv cable and drive it by the trans builder.  He may want to see it so no warranty issues come up later.
