Fuel Return Line ?
« on: March 24 2012, 11:26:36 AM »
Anyone know exactly where the fuel return line runs near the passenger front tire?
Developed a rust leak there and I need to figure out a solution.
And yes I'm going to look too,  just trying to avoid the gasoline bath.   :rolleyes;

runs along side the frame rail...simple solution is to cut and splice in hose...just make sure you flare each end...

Yeah I'll do the hose trick and double clamp it.
The WE4 is mostly retired but still running and registered etc.

better yet, buy a fuel line repair kit at the parts store and fix it more permanently

Nah,  you should see the feed line.   :O
I'll use the high psi. fuel injection hose unless it's rotted more than a foot or two.   :icon_eyes:

Flare the tubing and double clamp it. You should be fine.

Yup, clamps are cheap these days,  probably the reason you need 2 on every important connection.   :icon_eyes:
Found a "want to sell it?" note on it today.....    :O
They don't realize the parts and aftermarket stuff is worth a lot more than the rest of the car,  excepting the clocklike running original Buick built drivetrain which is still worth a few bucks too.   :cool;
But I will sell the old '88 Corsica they also left a note on.   :rock:

Well it looks like I was 100% wrong on the location and 100% correct as to the problem by guessing.
Leak was in the back where the pipe was repaired years ago with a short piece of hose.   It dripped down the frame rail to the front.
Anyhow after moving it to the driveway off the dirt and getting a pint of gas or so mopped up I found the culprit,  this:

Slapped on a new stainless non-fuel injection type hose clamp and all is good, I'm guessing the hose has another 5 years at least and the frame probably 2.   :O :rolleyes;

My feelings exactly it was only a 10 year old clamp too.   :P
Even the splash of POR15 on it didn't do it much good.   :icon_redface:
It's in a bad spot where the line comes out of the rail and then goes back in.
Clamp caught a lot of dirt, salt, and water over the years being against the frame rail and all exposed.
On to bigger problems getting a cup holder in the GN and an astroroof headliner from G body.

That's the plan for the GN arm rest for the work commute, and a headliner for some added warmth in the winter.   :cool;
