Noisy Chev Alternator

I swear the worse thing ya' can do is store a vehicle...but anyway. The alternator is noisy on this 1998 Chev 4X4. Is there any way of lubricating the bearing?

From what I remember - alt bearings are sealed. I guess you could soak them in oil, but that wouldn't last. You're sure it's the alt and not the tensioner?

Ford tensioners are good for that, after it sits for a while it will squeal for a day or so.

I just picked up a customers Suburban that was sitting 2 years. He thought it was alternator noise but it was slightly low in PS reservoir, small leak at gear.

If it is the bearing replace the alternator now before it craps out. Once the bearing seizes it will screw the belt up as well as give you a big headache if you're driving it around. I've seen them lock up and break the case before so keep that in mind.

It's comin' from the alternator. I noticed the volt meter drop a couple times on the way home tonite after work.
