R12 leak seal - still available?

There's a very slow leak in the 87T's A/C. I haven't converted to 134 yet, and just out 4 cans of R12 in it. (Yes, I know, stupid to put it in a system I know has a leak, albeit a very slow one - I was bored)

Are there any R12 leak sealers that work and won't damage the system?

There used to be one called cryoselene but it's been off the market for 20 years now. It worked like a champ but it's long gone now.

Tried it once and never will again. Stuff sucks to say the least and I had to replace my compressor because of that shit.

Yep - that's what I was worried about. Once it stops cooling I will convert it over to R134.

Thanks for that info.  I have never used the leak stop but I have used the Freeze 12 freon before I converted my car and it worked great.  I guess they didn't do their homework on the leak stop.  Are you positive your compressor wasn't on its way out anyway Charlie?

No, no idea.. The compressor > accumulator lines are relatively now, and I replaced all of the orings when I redid the AC. Must have been 6 years ago or so.

It may have been but Freeze12 is not a standard substitute. It's a blend and doesn't distribute the oil right throughout the system. AC was working fine before I added it and a week afterwards the compressor was trash. Found out about the stuff after I'd used it from another tech.

When the R-12 is drained out can it be emptied into any empty tank even if it had 134 in it at one time? I dont know where to find clean tank for a decent price except an empty BBQ tank?
