Is Powerlogger stiull the best scan tool?
« on: June 03 2011, 10:42:18 AM »
I found an old thread on it over at TBS...
http://www.turbobuicks.com/forums/product-reviews/61875-turbo-buick-power-logger-full-throttle.html

Is this still the best logger/tuning tool for our cars?

by far...but, I strongly suggest having a scanmaster connected full time to monitor timing retard and O2s as those two items will be the first red flag raised if the fuel pump begins to die, the alky quits pumping, etc.

PL is so nice to be able to make a test run and then sit back and replay all the parameters easily in search of something anomalous or wrong.

It also makes it so easy for others to help you because they can look at the logs as well.

A lot of broken parts does not make you a racer; it makes you a slow learner.

OK - I got a used Powerlogger, and Scanmaster - should make it a lot easier tuning this thing.

PL is the cats ass...but I found it has a few issues. Loading the software isn't user friendly...and I had to get Norbs to walk me thru it. Drivers had to be loaded...moved around blah blah blah. PL doesn't fit on the computer screen...and you have to move it around to get it to fit each time. An anomaly that has popped up on mine...is that the RPM's on the graph are showing an RPM you'd see on an F1 race car at redline...but shows normally on the gauges. I have to check in with Bob and see what's up with that.

Scoob! Good to see you.

I saw the installation issues on Full Throttle's forum - being the computer nerd I am, I should be able to muddle through it. I can't imagine asking Norbs for help, I used to bust his balls HARD on the old IRC channel.  :add_wegbrech:

I want anything that can help me tune this thing and get a good baseline. There's enough other shit I will be worrying about.

Sticking to the basics...and taking Grumpys advice on Keep It Simple Stupid...works wonders...unfo rtunately...mo st can't comprehend it. The 49 and D5 will work great. Other things I'd throw at it would be 60 lb injectors...al ky...and one of Steve Monroes throttle bodies. Stick with Erics 5.7 chip...and be completely honest with him about your mods and your max PSI...and he'll have the chip pretty damn close when you receive it. Norbs is a good friend...and has an IQ that would rival Einstein. He's learned to dumb things down...so I can understand everything. Don't kid yourself...Nor bs is one of the finest tuners around. Not only is PL great for tuning...but if you have an issue with the engine...there's a good chance you'll see a discrepancy on PL which will alert you to what's causing your problem. PL coupled with a SM...is pretty tough to beat.

I have 60's and a TT chip already. I plan on getting an AlkyControl system once it's tuned and dialed in.  I got a SM 2.2 with the PL I bought, so good on that too.

I think with the PL, SM, Steve's site and people like you, I should be pretty good. :)
