Installed a heated o2 recently in my ride....a Caspers unit that plugs into the egr wiring.  My question is if I use a chip such as Bob Baileys that does not use the EGR Valve...will I still get power to the heated 02 sensor...

I've always just rocked the Densos and never had a problem even with a 50% leaded race gas mix all the time. I wish somebody would tell me why the heated Co2s are worth it.

Some aftermarket headers cause slow warm up and or cool down at idle. This will make a stock O2 set a code. The heated O2's cure this problem.  Also with lead the heated O2's crap out as fast as non-heated.  Been there done that :rolleyes:  Denso's work best these days.

I had a cool down at idle with mine is weel. The ecm would jump back into open loop . Fixed it right up with the heated.

From what I understand, keeping the ECM in closed loop and reaching closed loop sooner are the main benefits of the heated O2 sensor.

Yep there is a reason why OEM changed over to Heated. :supz:

for one, the heated ones lose range more quickly which increases the numbers sold!

AND...

The heated sensors were not calibrated with our cars in mind.  Gas mileage may be worse as a result.

Our cars do not go closed loop until the coolant temp reaches 145 or so as I recall which is plenty of time for the sensor to be hot enuf if being driven.

Cutting the washer off the sensor would usually let it protrude far enuf into the exhaust stream to stay warm on a set of Hooker headers.

And, most modern chips run open loop at idle which renders the problem moot......

And, as stated, the Denso unheated is more lead resistant than the heated Delcos......an yway.

Hooker Headers...NOOO O! :rofl;

I had the cool off issue with the TA's. One thing good about the Ext G I can set it for open or closed loop

First I have heard of teh heated losing range. Just curious where you heard/read that at?

that was the common problem with them...as they aged, the voltage swing decreased on them but they did not throw a code.

Common knowledge/experience from the days when they were believed to extend the life when using race gas.

They went bad but people did not realize it because of the lack of a SES lite.

Trick enuf to need aftermarket headers, trick enuf to being running speed density!

My point with the heated units was something we did years ago as Steve mentioned. But the info obtained was from vendors or magazines married to vendors. Forget the past and use a non-heated Denso and change after a few exposures with lead.

I did have Hooker headers and the heated O2 did solve the cool down problem. Then I sprayed the area around the O2 with Thermo-Tec spray and that solved the problem and used a n0n-heated O2.

I cut the washer off and that solved my problem with the hookers....hea ders, that is....no more credit solved the other.

Nothing solved the lack of spool, however

HMMM...FWIW the Denso, Bosch and AC delcos all jumped into open loop.

Cool trick with the washer wouldnt have thaought that little thickness made a difference but I guess aver little bit helps. :psix;
