full throttle issues
« on: August 10 2009, 12:45:46 AM »
ok guys im breaking down and admitting to myself im outta practice with these cars. the 87 i bought has a front mont and green strip injectors... but has a stock fuel pressure reg.    also has a chip. idk if the trans is geared retarted or what. but i cant get it to do a burn out to save my life. and when i hit the gas the car just doesnt have the power i remember with my 86. boost guage says between 12 and 15 lbs. yes its low but im still workin on the little kinks b4 i set it @ 18. fuel pressure is at 40 at idle.

other issue is i have never had a working oil pressure guage but this ones reads less then 25 of pressure at idle and only goes to 30 at what i think is full throttle. idk if im just retarted or what. any imput is appreciated... well most of it lol.  :prayer:

Be best if you could find someone experienced to look at the car.

Oil pressure, when hot, should hit 50 psi at wide open throttle...idl e is usually between 15-25.  I have seen less on high mileage or loose engines at idle...as long as it jumps up immediately when the rpms come up, it is fine.

What turbo is on the car and what stall converter is in it?  Also what chip?

Do you have a scantool?  Hard to tell what is going on without scantool info, fuel pressure, etc :)

I had the same problem when my converter wasn't right for the larger turbo I'd put on. But, Woody already beat me to that punch, d'oh!
