General Buick Tech / MAP help w alky kit
« on: May 04 2012, 10:14:22 PM »
Well its 10 pm and I'm in the garage trying to hook up an alky kit I got from Razor.
Heres my questions:
I have an aftermarket gnx type gauge set, it has VDO gauges. I looked at the MAP that is installed on the passenger fender. It looks like the new 3 bar MAP I bought with the kit. The plug even looks the same. So am I correct in thinking that I can just switch out the old with the new?
Second , I followed the vacuum hose from the MAP and found it disconnected and laying behind the valve cover! I believe the original owner must have disconnected it from the 4th metal vacuum tube on the throttle body. There was a line there going to the passenger compartment. I disconnected it and the VDO boost gauge quit working so mystery solved.
So if I hook up the new MAP to the metal vacuum line , where would be a good place to splice in for my VDO boost gauge. I don't want to interfere with the alky in any way.
Thanks for any help.

Thanks Steve,
I only see an EBAY site for him, does he have another site or storefront?

So its time for some alky. Where is the best place to order the kit? I'm thinking Razors kit is the way to go.
Also do I need the 3 bar map? Not sure about this.
Thanks folks.

Well I got the bracket out in pieces, and the sensor was also in a few different parts as well. Replaced both and cleaned the ring. Car is running great now. Thanks to all.

Guess, I saw the peg, I was hoping it was not a broken bolt so that good. As to the window, no I did not rotate anything. Should I rotate until a strip of metal (window?)is inside the sensor area, or should I rotate until the metal strip is clear of it? Seems like if the metal was not there it would remove easier, but I have never removed one of these before.

I need help getting these off the motor. The bracket appears broke. I have removed 1 13mm stud and 1 13mm bolt. I also loosened the pinch bolt, but it ain't coming off.
So is there another bolt that I am missing? Or is there some black magic involved?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
