People are not buying their product, also Sam McLaughlin signed a 100 agreement with GM, to build in Oshawa, well that contract is up. Diaz gave nothing but false hope to his membership and obviously does not give at shit about the 10s of thousands of non unionized workers at the dealerships. GM builds cars in China and sells them here. The affordable family sedan has been perfected by Toyota and Honda. Ford just flat out gave up making them, GM should do the same.

Canada / Hagerty in Ontario« on: September 28 2018, 08:04:27 AM »
I was getting an appraisal for an old Cadillac I just picked up, the Ministry in Ontario requires one on cars older then 20 years to tax you on the appraisal price, I could go on about that but I want to pass on some information about Hagerty.
I have had "agreed value" coverage on my Buick since my former classic car coverage was insurance company was bought out by Hagerty a few years ago. I specify Ontario because in Canada each province has slightly different rules for insurance. As I am sure it is the same in the US from state to state. The gentleman who I have used for a number of appraisals passed on some information to me. He told me of a 57 Chevrolet that had been stolen. The owner had agreed value coverage for $70000 with Hagerty. When he filed his claim Hagerty informed him that he would get $42000. The owner was caught of guard due to the "agreed value" clause. Hagerty came up to $65000 after a lengthy back and forth and told the owner go to court if you want a penny more. Well the stolen Chev's owner had a recent appraisal for the car at a value of $70000. He told Hagerty "see you in court and you will have to pay my court costs when I win". The appraiser was called to testify. The Judge asked for the appraisal and treated the appraiser's testimony as expert testimony. The $70000 claim stood and Hagerty had to pay the Chev Owners court costs as well. Had there not been an appraisal the Judge has to utilize the next expert in line for a vehicle value which is the Insurance Company. Also with no appraisal the insurance company will not pay you the sales tax on top of the agreed value to replace the car. That is a 13% hit in Ontario. i.e $10000 policy would be paid without the additional $1300 to cover the tax if there is no appraisal fo the car. Now his business is based on making money from appraisals, I realize this and this could be an elaborate marketing tool, but I think the gentlemen who shared this with me was being honest as he has never brought this up in the 3 times I had used his services before. I have not taken the time to dig yet to find the ruling, in Canada everything in the courts ends up on www.canlii.org/en/ . I am going to stick with Hagerty, but I am going to spend $150 to have a current appraisal. Happy Buicking! 6

If you find a decent car, get your hands dirty and make it your own you have what I perceive to be the majority of the guys who post here do and have done. It is also what I find what draws me to the car hobby, wrenching and keeping decent cars on the road.
When it comes to the original question of when a restoration becomes a clone or a tribute car, that comes down to how it left the factory not how new the sheet metal is. When it comes to restoration if the numbers match or the driveline is period correct and correct to the build sheet a rotted out tetanus infested body becomes very valuable after a rebuild. The 60s Vettes, Mopar B-bodies, GM A-bodies, Fastback Mustangs are going to bring top dollar restored to original. So it would seem in terms of value all the metal, paint and shiny parts can be new so long as the drive train is numbers matching or period correct it would not be a clone. Now if you find a never driven mint 307ci 69 Camaro still in the wrapper, you throw a 427 in it and make it a COPO clone you have just that a clone. Is it worth more??? Value is in the eye of the buyer. 7

Well I found it. Was at the Canadian Tire in Scarborough on Friday buying some tools to replace what was stolen with the Oldsmobile. When I was cashing out I looked out the window and saw it. My stuff was gone. They put about 300km on it. They fried my brakes. I stripped it today and will scrap it tomorrow. Not worth my time and effort or cash to fix up for sale.
On the bright side my new to me 91 Ninety Eight is sweet! 8

My Olds was stolen again!!! Right out of the drive way again!!!. I was watching my friends Great Dane (beautiful Dog) she went nuts barking at 140am. Danes don't bark that often but being half asleep I did not put 2 and 2 together. It is for the better because I would have dished out some "please don't do that" and "stop stealing my car" which would have resulted in me being locked up because you do not have an unencumbered right to defend your home or property in Canada.
This time I was able to get them on video. A group of 4 has been breaking into homes in my area as well as the neighbouring City of Scarborough also stealing from cars as well as steeling cars. One of the asshats wasn't covering his face. And since I know a guy at the local police he was quickly identified. The group was already wanted by police. They were almost arrested 2 weeks ago in Toronto but took off on police in a stolen car reaching speeds over 200km/h (120mph). Police in Toronto are virtually not allowed to pursue anyone or anything. 2 of them were arrested on Tuesday in Scarborough however our harsh courts in the City of Toronto will be sure to give them a stern finger wagging. I could wallpaper my home with the print out of their criminal records. Car was stolen Monday morning and hasn't been located yet. I did however find a sweet 91 Ninety Eight very low kms and no rust!! for cheap. The 91 has pass key so will not be as east to steal as the 89. 10
General Auto Tech / Re: Krown Rust Control« on: December 18 2017, 08:21:53 AM »
I have Krown'd my 2008 truck since new every year. It does a good job.
The liquid brine they use here in southern Ontario turns every vehicle on the road into an oxidizing chemistry project. There are spots in the truck the have developed some cancer and I have treated the spots. No rust has appeared on the out side of the truck only behind the plastic wheel well covers in the front on the drivers side and the rear wheel wells. This is the trucks 10th winter. The 89 Olds was crowned nearly all its life and it is solid underneath, some rust on the body and has not been sprayed in 5 years. I also buy cans of T40 (the stuff they spray) and cover my snowblower with it. Had it for 10 years and no rust, still has all the original sheer pins too. Basically if you want to keep a car in salt or brine country for a long time it needs some kind of rust treatment. I have always found Krown to be a good product. 12
IHADAV8 Playground / What is it about your Turbo Buick that makes you enjoy it?« on: September 27 2017, 06:42:03 PM »
Well for me it is getting lost in it. Whether it is working on it, driving it, seeing the smile on my 8 year old sons face when I give it a little boost or even being frustrated by it. My Buick helps me escape from the Bullshit life likes to hand out. In 9 plus years of ownership it has always been a way to escape from reality for a while. I enjoy owning one.
