Wow, it's been a long time. Seeing all these names makes it feel like nothings changed. It looks like alot of guys are still around. Wow, after all these years. I'm smiling right now.

Granitestate, didn't we buy some injectors together? Like, 15 years ago!? That's awsome. Chris! What's up!?! <--that guys cool! Drinks SA if you ever see him at the bar. I recognize Texas T, Daveismissing, radius kid ur a turbobuick.com guy right?

Yeah, I just wanted to let people know that even though I don't come around don't mean I forgot anything or everyone. I often think about time the community was there for me. Probably more than I should lol. And, if I never come around again, I want yall to know that I'll still never forget. Yeah, yall mean that much to me. even stevewood wait, he probably can't read that even stevewood

Yeah Robert, we bought some of the early 60# Siemens injectors from Ken Mosher when they first started putting them in TB's. Those were some pretty good times. Sounds like you got your shit together. Keep driving forward and good things will happen. I don't frequent the boards as much as I used to but I'm still around. I haven't seen RecklessRob in quite a few years. Not sure what's going on with him. I still look into the service station when I go by but I haven't seen him there in quite a while, not sure if he still works there.

Take care of yourself and have a Merry Christmas!

I pretty much parked my GN the last couple of years, figured I was on borrowed time(ing chain).

I figure I'll pull mine and do all the other little stuff I should do...rear main, front cover mods, clean the engine up and repaint, detail the engine bay, install the PS HR PnS engine mount. Might as well do the turbo and finish up the MAFTPro install while I'm at it. Maybe I won't be driving it any time soon. That's about four years worth of work at the rate I'm going.

Hey Robert, what's up?! I haven't been on any of the Buick boards much in the last year or more. Too busy. I just started poking around here cause I'm working 12 hr night shifts and got bored. It seems like the Buick community changes a little every year, new guys in, some old guys out, and some old guys like Mr. Wood just keep hangin in there.  I guess technically I'm an old guy since I bought mine new but I don't keep up on the boards as much as I used to. Maybe after I retire.....

General Auto Tech / Re: wheel bearing swap on 2500hd
« on: December 15 2015, 09:13:44 PM »
Not sure if the front wheel bearings on the 1500 and the 2500 are the same but I got an intermittent ABS fault on my 04 GMC 1500 4X4 before it went out. Wheel bearing went out pretty quick. I used Timken's and got them from AutoZone online for a good price after discounts. They are a common failure item on these trucks. I bought a spare on sale and it's sitting on my shelf waiting for the other one to go. Not uncommon for them to shoot craps a little over 100K.

Let's see..this year I put ZERO miles on my GN. Couple reasons....1.) still haven't addressed the original plastic timing sprocket. 2.) I have been on the road for work a ton this year so haven't had time to tinker. 3.) Too much other broken shit I have to fix when I finally get home. 4.) I bought (2) 1959 El Camino's that I have to figure out. Gonna make one out of two, God willing.

If my work schedule allows, I hope to pull the motor out of the Buick and deal with all of the little maintenance items on it. Hopefully get it done by spring so I can drive it again.

The SS exhaust is probably cheap 400 series stainless. My car is garage kept in my two-car-under garage. Every time I open the door in the summer everything in the garage gets soaking wet due to a cool basement and high summer humidity outside. I'm thinking of ventilating it so the temperature stays closer to what it is outside. That would keep the condensation down. I'm sure that contributed to under car corrosion on my car.

When I worked at Tonawanda Engine Plant in '86, the engine families were BOC and CPC. Tonawanda was CPC which stood for Chevy-Pontiac-Canada Group. Our plant made engines for Chevys, Pontiacs and pick-ups made in Canada. We built he 2.0L straight 4 cyl, 2.8L and 4.3L V6's and 366, 427 and 454 BB V8's. No SB V8's. The other group was Buick-Olds-Cadillac. I would expect to see 4.1's in those cars.
Of course there was also some cross breeding, most notably the Turbo Trans Am. It looks like a couple of Ponchos could be had with the 4.1L.

Nice! Nothing like a smokey burnout.

I've been doing business with Mike for years & probably spent enuf to put Marianne in a nice dress & a couple pairs of heels a few years back But I never got a shirt or a sticker!!  :rolleyes;
Ditto. MAFT Pro plus a bunch of other little stuff over the years. They've always done well by me and I recommend them when I can. I think I have a FTSS sticker plus the old Ramchargers stickers.I guess that goes back a ways.

« on: June 13 2014, 08:18:53 AM »
We've had a bunch of cats over the years. Latest one's have been ferals or Craigslist cats. We have three now but we have to bring them in at night or they get eaten. Some of the ferals have been the best cats. Too bad we have so many 'yotes and fishers around. Our best two disappeared a year ago last spring about a week apart. My wife still gets bummed when I mention them. I'm not really a cat person per se, but we don't have the time for a dog. We've had two tomcats that were almost dog-like. I brought home a litter of feral kittens from the mill a couple of months ago and we gave them all away except one......she's testing my patience. :hmm

« on: June 05 2014, 10:44:40 AM »
When they came out I kinda liked the X-11. They were pretty ugly but I thought anything with wide(r) tires and HO on the hood was cool. Stupid kid. My next door neighbors had a regular Citation for many years and I don't remember them having a lot of problems with it. When I worked at Tonawanda Engine Plant we were running 2.8L and 4.3L V-6's on the test dyno in the lab (oil consumptions tests on the 2.8L's and something else on the 4.3L's) and what a difference when the PLC ran the RPM's up! The 2.8L was pretty damn smooth but the 4.3L felt like it was ready to come apart. That had a lot to do with the 2.8L 60 deg V-6 being purpose built as a V-6 and the 4.3L 90 deg being a V-8 with two cylinder lopped off.

Here's what I would do, in this order:
1.) soak it in PB Blaster
2.) try vise grips, if there's enough sticking out
3.) if you use vise grips and snap what's left off, grind it flat, center punch and use a left handed drill bit (left handed drill bits rock)
4.) if you go all the way through and it still didn't come loose, use an easy out but it will probably snap off
5.) an alternate path at #2 is to take a nut about the same size as the headless bolt and put it over the piece sticking out and weld the nut to the broken bolt and use a socket to try to get it out....then proceed to step #3 after you break that off (I choose which path to take depending on how much time and effort I want to waste)
6.) when all else fails, have some beers and lament on how it sucks to have to work on cars instead of pay someone else to do it
When I was in the service I got really good at getting stripped flat head phillips machine screws out of AIM-9 missile launcher racks with a hammer and a punch....it's a good life skill.

General Buick Tech / Re: Dutt neck - worth it?
« on: April 26 2014, 08:55:08 PM »
Via the study Steve linked it certainly looks like there are benefits.
I trust no one thinks I was disparaging Steve by quoting the dissenting opinion, -merely to engage the peeps in a spirited discussion. :)
.

Nope. I didn't take it that way. I just couldn't understand why you would need to change the location of the IC inlet centerline. I think you'd have to screw it up pretty bad to have to screw with the turbo to get the hose on.

ACTUALLY.........The Dutt-neck ONLY gained 2 psi of boost due to Kenny having to re-clock the compressor housing to align with the new centerline of the larger neck. This, in turn, added more spring tension on the wastegate actuator. PERIOD! I have welded quite a few 2.5" Dut-Necks on over the years. They definately do not hurt performance, but I have found no substaniated gain other wise. Take a die grinder to the intercooler inlet and you can gain almost 1/2" of cross sectional area. The above info came directly from Kenny himself, shortly after he dyno tested the modification. I agree with Razor in that the CORE is the biggest restriction in the system. Step up to a PTE stock location intercooler for the best gains. (or other SLIC units available today.) The stock core is barely big enough to support 350HP. I know, I know they ARE alot of coin.
I'm confused by this one. Why would you have to re-clock the turbo to align it with the Dutt neck? I have mocked up my stocker on a piece of plywood as a jig and plan to cut off the stock neck and maintain the same centerline and distance when welding to the Dutt neck in place. I see no reason why this won't fit correctly. Why would you install it any other way?

Clever. But I would've done "& Rocky", but alas, somebody's already got it.
I do have "SNAAB" on  my 9000 Aero and I just gave up "87 GN" for the Buick.

Hasn't really started here yet. They cancelled school today but they were only scheduled for half day......teach er's drinking day or something. You'd think living up north people around here would get the hang of it driving on snow and ice. 90% do but the 10% can cause a lot of wrecks. I drive 110 miles back and forth to work everyday so I see my share of asshats.....
....snowblower is ready to go.....waiting ....patiently. ...
