General Buick Tech / Re: T&D Roller Rockers with GN1 Heads

I am running the Champion GN1 Aluminum heads with T&D Roller Rocker arms and I went with the 8.250 length push rods. Worked out fine.

Thanks for the reply.... I tried to contact T&D I would assume that they are closed today. I looked on TAPerformance site and they showed the correct geometry to be with no threads showing out the bottom but I thank that Harland Sharp Rockers calls for two threads to be showing. Right now I am measuring 8.75 turns on my push rod adjuster which means that I should need a 8.250 length push rod however if two threads should be showing that means that I will need a 8.200 push rod. Sorry for the long post. Thanks...

I am trying to measure my preload so that I can order new push rods I need to know if you measure them with the adjuster screw flush or with threads showing and how many? Thanks....

Thanks for the reply.... I am trying to decide between the Permatex #2 non harding, Loctite 567, or the Ultra Black and was wondering who had the best results from which.

What is everyone using to seal head studs in the block to prevent leakage? Thanks....

No I have not tried that but the noise only happens while moving with throttle applied or when foot brakeing.

Yes... I have a ProTorque convertor that I purched from Eric Sheritz when he rebuilt my transmission years ago
The car has never been ran hard or to a track. I swapped out my converter with a low mile stock D5 converter and the noise was still there therefore I swapped them back. Could a front pump cause this noise? Rotor vanes maybe?

I plan to tear it down in a couple of day to inspect the cam button and spring, but what is hard to understand is why won't it make the noise while the rear end is raised??

I do have a boost/vacuum gauge and the vacuum is steady between 15-16 @ idle. Thanks...

Thanks for the response guys.... I'm working nites so I'm just waking up. I have a new flex plate and yes it made the noise before the header install. A little history.... I rebuilt the front end and engine several years ago. I'm running the stock pistons, rods, and crank. I had the block line honed so that I can install ARP main studs. I installed a 204/214 elderbrock cam kit and double roller timing set. I broke the engine in using Lucus brake in oil, the engine has 80psi oil pressure @ start up, 50-60 psi while driving and 20-23 psi hot @ idle. I have a Terry Houston Down Pipe and a Hooker Catback exhaust with Aerochamber Mufflers... Here's the strange part.....I do not hearthe noise @ idle or reving the motor in park, reverse or neutral, if I foot brake it and build boost the metallic ticking starts sometimes not everytime. If I place jack stands under the rear axles and apply the emergency brake and press the brake petal tring to build boost it will not make the noise. The noise only starts when driving and the rpm's are between 1200 and up and it sort of follows the engine rpm but it is not steady. Once the noise starts if I slide it in neutral while keeping the the rpm's the same the noise will stop, put it back in drive and it comes back. I have since replaced the cam with an Erson 208/208 flat tappet with Johnson lifters with the same results. Sorry for the long post!!
