Transmissions / 700-4R filter
« on: October 07 2015, 01:57:13 PM »
I've been reading that this is a better filter to use as it picks up from the bottom, not the top. If I'm understanding it, you can remove the 4th gear pressure switch, install a 90 degree brass adapter and reinstall the switch and then the 700 filter will fit and then just reinstall the pan? Is this the deal or is it just a waste of time and effort?

Thanks!!

General Buick Tech / Track times....help
« on: September 28 2015, 10:39:51 AM »
Ok for the racers here, I'm confused and need help. You can see in my sig what car has. Running 24 lbs. boost with alky. Settings on TT chip are 129 on timing ( aggressive mode) and over all fueling set at 109, getting 789 on SM at end of track. First gear fueling set at 115, was down to 113 but was getting slight knock so went back up to 115. I think the car is tuned as good as I can get it with a margin of safety with just the SM. Maybe could get a little more aggressive with high gear fueling but don't want to hurt it.

Here's question, last time out with not quite as fine a tune, it went 12.5 at 108.34, 60 foot time of 1.904, 88.64 MPH at the 1/8th. This time out it was a bit warmer and went 12.993 at 107.02, 60 ft of 2.074, 86.46 mph at the 1/8.

I'm on street tires and they put a generous amount of sticky on the track. First numbers, I was leaving with about 4-5 lbs of boost, no tire spin. This time I pushed it up to 6-7 lbs at launch and spun just a bit, very little.

I don't know so I'm asking. If I get drag radials I don't think it will help because even with my tires I'm not spinning much, if at all. car feels like it comes on pretty strong after the 60 ft but I cant get it to launch hard. And I don't think the brakes will hold at the line with much more than 7lbs?

I think the stall on my converter is about 2400-2500, is that with the larger turbo killing my holeshot?

Looking for any advice.....Tha nks!

General Buick Tech / track day tomorrow!!
« on: September 26 2015, 09:21:21 PM »
Super excited. Still on the street tires, went 12.5 last year. Going to try to get out of the hole with more boost this year. Last year left around 3-4, going to try to stick 5-6 this time. Also going to get more aggresive with my tune. Last year never got O2 below 800, shooting for 780 this year if the knock stays away. If I can get into the 11's ill be happy.

General Buick Tech / Tuning
« on: September 08 2015, 12:28:44 PM »
Started to get ready for track day 9-27, been making a few test passes. Want to try to get in 11's on the street tires, my 60 ft are usually in the 1.9 range. First gear fueling I'm down to 117 on Eric's chip and have timing advanced 2 settings. Scanmaster is all I have for tuning ( I know PL is better) but in full runs, lowest recorded O2's are 800 in the 95mph range. My question is I think I will end up maxing out fuel reduction in 1st and still be rich? If so then what, keep adding timing in 1/2 gear parameter?

General Buick Tech / Boost...19 to 24
« on: July 22 2015, 12:35:28 PM »
Hey guys, stupid question. I run alky and 24lbs of boost, 99% street car. I see some guys running some pretty quick times and they say the run 19 LBS of boost. I know there are lots of factors but my question is this, is 24 with 0 knock harder on the motor than If I would turn it down a bit, and also would I notice a big decrease in power?? Obviously tune fuel for lower boost.

General Buick Tech / front brakes
« on: July 07 2015, 04:55:17 PM »
I'm considering doing the front brake swap with the Blazer/S-10 switch. My brakes are kinda spongey now even though I have bled them a couple times and the pads/rotors only have about 10,000 miles on them. I have also converted them to vacuum with new booster. My question is, is it worth the effort? I don't want to go to the expense and effort to have the same soft pedal feeling. I don't get good brakes until I have used about half the pedal travel.

Well they quit working, didn't get lucky and find a bad fuse so I'm speculating its the switch in the turn signal. Anyone trouble shoot these before. I haven't dug into it beyond fuse, looking for some advice/direction....not good with electrical issues :icon_confused:

Thanks!!

General Buick Tech / valve train noise
« on: October 27 2014, 06:23:29 PM »
Car is running good so now I wanted to know if there are any options out there to fix this ticking noise. The sound is like a clicking lifter. Is there any way to correct this or am I stuck with it. Also is this a precurser to a larger problem

How many miles do you guys that actually drive your cars get out of these? Obviously the more you track the car the less you get. If I have a few track weekends a year will I get 10, 000 miles out of a set?

General Buick Tech / Rear Sway bar
« on: October 10 2014, 11:09:10 AM »
So I have the Hellwig rear bar. For best launch I want this set harder or softer. I thought harder. It has 3 holes in bar ends and also an adjustable drop link for fine tuning I guess. I currently have it set in the hole in the end which I think is the softest setting, so my understanding is to increase stiffness I move to the middle and then hardest setting would be the hole 2 inches in from the end?
