General Buick Tech / low 12's
« on: October 10 2013, 09:26:13 PM »
Can low 12's be run on street tires? Yes I hear it already, get sticky tires. I plan on it next spring but there is one track day left this year and I wondered if this has been done by many?

General Buick Tech / oil in up pipe
« on: October 09 2013, 10:31:05 AM »
I thought maybe the seals in my stock turbo were going bad last year as I found oil residue in the up pipe. I pulled the IC to clean any oil out ( should have done this before i went to the track, 50% plugged with bugs) and it was clean inside. The oil is coming from the throttle body back down?? The PCV valve is good, I have breathers in both valve covers. Why is this happening? Also i just had to replace the vacuum block and that gasket and old block were pretty oil covered. I thought that was strange?

Normal or do I have a problem here?

Thanks!!

General Buick Tech / 1st track day with alky
« on: September 26 2013, 12:50:25 PM »
This Sunday will be first chance with alky. Stupid question time. Since I dont have good tires for hook-up should I fill up with gas before track to aid in hook-up or will the added weight be worse for time's? 2nd question, say I get in 15 passes max, will one tank of alky last? It seems as soon as it get to half a tank the low level light flashes or even stays on during acceleration.

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!

General Buick Tech / vacuum block
« on: September 18 2013, 02:23:48 PM »
During my latest problem solving session I discovered another potential issue. It appears I have a slight leak in or around the vacuum block? I cant see any obvious issue but if I hold my hand over it the slight hissing I hear is muffled. It appears that the plastic block may have a slight bow in it??? Maybe its leaking at the seal to the TB because of this. Anyone run into this before?

General Buick Tech / Always something
« on: September 17 2013, 12:20:16 PM »
This dam car leads a pampered life and still punishes me constantly. Nice day so I descide to take it to work and set my new RJC boost controller on the way. let things warm up and make first pull, only 15 LBS so I pop hood to make adjustment.... ...coolant sprayed around and pooled in intake valley  :013:   cant see obvious leak so continue on. Get to office and look further, after much wiggling stuff and burning of fingers I find the rubber cap I put on the steel nipple that used to feed the throttle body has a split on the under side.

I think I'll get a short piece of hose and just run it between the 2 outlets, afraid the rubber caps will continue to fail.

Side note, have RJC controller almost maxed out ( have about a turn and a half left) to get to 23 LBS. Sound right? I read where guys run close to 30 lbs. and I would run out of adjustment way before that?

General Buick Tech / RJC boost controller

What a pain in the ass. I'm no engineer but if you design a device that basically goes "in-line" in a hose wouldnt the basic principal be to have both ends be the same frickin size???? Instead of a quick easy install in the parking lot, now at home I'll need to remove the actuator, fight with the WAY to small supplied hose to get on the nipple, re-install and go from there.

General Buick Tech / New Exhaust
« on: August 26 2013, 12:04:21 PM »
Exhaust pipes have some holes rusted in them so time to replace from cat back. I like the Pypes system but kinda pricey just under $400. Have heard good things about the sound of this system also. What is another good alternative with maybe a lower price?

Thanks!!

General Buick Tech / cruise issue
« on: August 20 2013, 10:58:39 AM »
Its always something :rolleyes; . Cruise started failing this weekend. It will set but then slowly slow down, I looked at hoses going to the diaphram thingy and the seem good. I'm sure this is a common problem, what should I check?

Thanks!!!

General Buick Tech / actuator arm
« on: August 16 2013, 11:29:05 AM »
As i get older I realize my grip isnt what it was but holy crap, if you want to run boost in the 20+ range it is a bitch to get that rod on and off for adjustment. When its hot its even more of a good time. I'm going to make a T handle tool that hooks behind the nut or something. Sick of getting burned  :013:

General Buick Tech / drive shaft loop
« on: August 14 2013, 02:37:32 PM »
Was thinking about buying or making one of these. Had car up on lift last night and between the brace that is there now and the trans mounting bar I dont see the point. Granted if that U-joint went it would bang things up there but is that loop really going to do much more than whats already there? The shaft cant fall to the ground with the 2 bars under it.
