Title: Going Back To Stock ECM From XFI Question
Post by: Scoobum on October 18 2022, 11:29:26 AM
What do I have to change it back. I'm assuming ECM wires were cut and then wired into the XFI wires. Do I simply reattach the colour coded wires.

If they didn't use the plug-n-play adapter it's time to start printing out wiring diagrams.

Thanks Jeremy...that's what I was afraid of. If it hasn't got the adapter, then XFI is staying in it.

Get the wire nuts out!

I bought an Elky that someone had started a buick swap on and had not finished.

It had about 20 ft of wiring in it that was done with floor lamp wiring and wire nuts.

It would not crank over.  I replaced all the wiring and did it right.  It still would not turn over.  Then I discovered the ignition switch on the column was about 1/32" out of adjustment LOL

Jeremy, it has a PnP harness on it...so it's going back to a stock ECM. The plan is to sell off the XFI and the proceeds will cover the swap and then some. I think Erics chips can handle 120's. It's going on race gas. Stay tuned...

Jeremy...here's the injectors Eric sells for the stock ECM. Says good for E85, but I assume I can use these with race gas as well.

Only downside might be at idle as large injectors may not do low pulse widths very well but for a race car should not be a problem.  Might need an idle speed of closer to 1000 rpm?

Guys on the other board using the big injectors with Erics chips don't seem to be having any issues with idle characteristic s.

That's good for gasoline and normal idle speed
Sounds like they are good to go!

Just make sure they are compatible with MTBE if your fuel has that. I think it's in Q16 but not C16.

Thanks Jeremy. Steve, I had a discussion about the Axis/Axis chip. It's the cats ass for keeping control over large injectors...es pecially down low in higher RPM range. I'll be able to crack the 9's with the 5.7 chip, but I'll have to pull a whack of low gear fuel and throw the low gear timing at...just like I did with my car. I gotta find out what the compression ratio is for this engine, as I may have to sneak up on the low gear timing if it's higher than what I was using.

One thing I learned about these cars. You gotta hammer them through the 330.

I had a discussion with someone that knows the Axis/Axis chip inside and out. If I had to do it again, this is what I would use. I had no idea what it's capabilities are.

Local. I'm done for owning one myself. Can't get parts here, exchange rate, shipping and more and more Buick vendors don't wanna ship up here.

Last toy I bought was my Harley last May. Full Stage 3 race kit on it. Pulls like a freight train. 2009 Fatbob. Showroom condition. Took me 2 years to find it. Gotta do a walk around vid of it one of these days. Just installed front cintered brake pads on it to help bring it to a halt.
