Title: Well, that was fun!
Post by: Racer X on May 28 2006, 07:16:39 PM
The shaft has about 1/8" of end play in it and the intake blades are all chewed up. Something died in there and took the turbo with it.  :bigeyes;

I don't know if that's chewed up or chewed OFF!  :rofl;  :bigeyes;

So, I have basically a stock motor, who's turbo should I try now?

I *think* I am going to get a 44 unless some you have a good reason why I should not?

I have thought about those, but I don't want to the R&D department. I will wait until I hear something.

Have you heard good or bad about these?

Gregg give us some more info on your setup, and your intentions for it.
S6, did that turbo failure take the motor with it ?

Post by: Be4u on May 29 2006, 08:00:04 PM
If his motor is mostly stock a 44 would be the way to go I'd think. Tried and tested.

The motor was completely rebuilt about 10K miles ago. The heads have been ported and polished, 218/212 cam, 40# injectors. The TC I *think* is pretty normal, however, I am noty real sure what I have since I have been through 5 transmissions.

I am not going race the car just want a nasty streetable car, I'll let the driver take care of the rest.  :yawinkle:   :rofl;

I'm in love with my '51. Hella streetable.... and with a larger cam like that, you owe it to yourself to get a churbo that will will use it.

With a stock converter, the LE 44 is a good choice.
If you up the converter a little,  a ball bearing 60 series would
kick ass. Not cheap, and you may run out of injector, but insanely
fast street car.

I just got off the phone with Limited Engineering and I bought a 60.

The guy told me that the 60 and the 44 were the same price and with my heads and cam the 60 would breathe deeper and better.

Should be here in about 6-8 days.

Are you sending your old turbo back as a core?
Title: Well, that was fun!
Post by: Racer X on May 30 2006, 03:12:43 PM
No. I have a Turbonetics. They didn't even ask for it.

I need to get the three hoses 3" hoses to hook this back up and I would like to get those cool looking blue ones.

Where?

Got the new te-60 last night and put it in. I just need the hoses now so I can finish the install.

Hey Rob, is there some sealant that I need to use between the THDP and Turbo?

I'd use a little bit of high temp grease. The heat form the exhaust gasses will
quickly turn it into carbon and make it self sealing. The DP doesn't see the high pressure like the manifolds and crossover pipe do.

Naw, headers aint in...hell, I havent even unloaded my cah. I'll need to be getting a socket that fits the bolts. There like the ones inside the engine used for the rods. Torx bolts maybe?

I finally got all my hoses in the mail and got the turbo hooked up. However, since I do not live in the friggen toolies like Sylvan I have to get it smogged and registered before I can really test it out. I suspect I am going to need a new chip and some tuning with the turbo change.

I've heard that Eric and some of the other chip guys will
do emmissions chips.
