Title: For Sale/Trade rant
Post by: SuperSix on August 07 2013, 09:03:10 PM
on some boards - it seems the people selling items all want to add Paypal fees. Why not just add to the price, and not dick around? I love having to calculate a 3% surcharge when I buy things.  :068:

Just seems petty to me. Should we pay for the gas to get the parcel to the post office?

That bugs me as well!! Let's see sir, $148 for parts, $14 shipping PLUS add 3% for Pay Pal!  :013:

Ideally, they should be priced with shipping too.

I really hate when the only method they offer is PayPal and then you want me to pony up 3%. To me that's not right. If there's options and I choose PayPal I can understand that..

I've yet to grasp the 3% thing.  The way paypal works now, they made sending money much much easier if you just click 'friends and family' now.   That avoids the 3% and you don't have to answer all the questions since it's not a ebay auction.

Gas is more of a bitch than the 3%.  A few days ago I mailed off something I sold for $10 shipped.  Postage was $5.80 and I burned a gallon of gas to the post office and back...    Needless to say I didn't retire to Whore Island on that sale. :)

well this has nothing to do with paypal but I absolutely hate it when the yahoo at the drive in overfills my soda cup and then puts the lid on and then when I go to stick my straw through it spills soda all over my damn console.   :091: :soap: :011:

I rarely use the "friends and family".. No recourse if paid that way.. from Paypal at least. I almost always use my Discover card to pay with Paypal - more protection.

And I feel bad abusing it.. :(

I think of it as a 3% discount for customers paying by personal check or MO rather than an extra charge for Paypal.

Yeah well but until more get onboard with the likes of Bitcoin, PP is the best out there.

I prefer my customers to send their throttle body to be worked vs buying one I have ready to sell. They'll get it cheaper and by including a personal check or MO inside the pkg there's no paypal fee. Surprising that most would rather use paypal though.

Well Paypal charges more like 3.5% nobody wants go to the bank and deposit and check or money order. My credit union is over 15miles away from home. I have no problem gifting the money PayPal isn't really gonna protect your purchase. My biggest problem with shipping is the rates change all over the country. I try to keep the shipping in the sale price but for larger items just can't do it. Do get me started with Craigslist!!

The catch here is overall cost. If I can pay by the click of a button rather than drive into town, buy a MO or write a check, pay for mail because I always use priority with tracking, and drive home, it's just cheaper in the end to pay the 3.5% since going into town will cost more. I live 10 miles from the post office and anything else is going to be in Waco. We've got a UPS drop but they charge an additional $5 to send from them.

If it's a pick up, UPS and FEDEX don't recognize the official federal address that the post office set up for this address so I usually have to call and raise hell until the idiot I'm talking to says." sorry sir, no such address exist". :013:

even a stamp to the US is over a buck. For me to take  time to hit the bank and or post office during business hours ten three percent begins to sound reasonable. ACashiers cheque/ money order costs me  seven bucks ish. I  had a jerk cancel a transaction and send back the western union draft made out to him. Took monts to get that money back ...months...   pardon my kindle
