Hello,
Me under WOT, the factory boost gauge line slid off. The XFI saved the motor but it did cause radiator fluid damage. The car has no water in the oil,but looses all the water in 20 minutes of drive time. My guess it's out the exhaust or i have sleeve cylinder malfunction. So...... Being it's time for frame off paint job (with extra's) The motor's coming out an car goes to Paint an Body. My current plan is to turn it into a GNX Cosmetically,Have Super Car type drive train (stable to 200mph),Retain the stock interior. Currently the car makes over 700hp ,an pulls serious corner G's but has the original paint an frame bushings. All the bumper fillers, flares an hood are un painted fiberglass still, all the a-arms front back upper an lower are BMR's,Aerospace Prostreet disk all around, bilisteins, custom rate springs,Falken auto-cross meats, 295/40 18's in the bcak 255/40's 18's up front.Currie 9" with 3:20 gears with bullet proff 200r4 non-lock-up,Motor has gt-71 percision turbo,72psi injectors, single alky kit,218 roller cam 1:65 rockers with iron GN1r's,RJC front mount Photo's of it cleaned up ,an Flatbedded to the shop,(12-20-11)

-
4-5-12 (next day) Well....We'er going to attach the trans. to the motor an drop it in but I decided to Ceramic Jet Coat alot of pieces..Jet coating the intake, valve covers, headers (again), cross pipe an down pipe lastly the turbo shield. cleaning up an blacking out again steel vacuum lines an fuel rail an the other steel tube braces .Bought differant steel heater line with no TB outlets..The trans. is getting painted too.(its bulletproof 200r4,no trans brake,non-lockup with art carr 3500 10")

Wheel wells are modified an painted,Assembely continues....
-
4-20-12 , The interior's back in !! The 16 gauge plate's welded in behind the rear seats. One piece twin gauge a-piller monuted .The quarter glass windows are in. Now there's issues...The dash cap won't allow the gauge face cover to snap in!!, I'm also not pleased with the looks,So..most likely it's all coming back out again. Want a pain in the arse but i want the interior Factory New again in fit ,colors an feel. Still waiting on parts ordered then the motor an trans go in..
-
4-24-12,Now everything's in Paint!!..Only awaiting parts for Mass Assembly!!
-
5-14-12 , Rear flares are on. Hood, trunk, fenders in sanding an polishing phase. Just ordered the Original Factory Dashboard an Surround from G-Bodyparts.com ,should be here in a week,It came out of a 65,000 mile t-type. Sending my FAST ECU back to FAST for traction control update an getting a speed senor while the capped dash comes out, I'll have it for sale. Still waiting on some external motor assembly parts to drop the motor an trans in. I go back to the shop in week
-
5-18-12 Friday Update!! Gbodyparts.Com Dash arrived. It'll work!! Beat's the hell out of the cap idea i tried!!! Trans. is ready to mate to the motor.Down pipe an cross over been jet coated. I go back to shop Monday to crack the whip..heh

5-30-12 Part 2!!! The Holes Filled!!! I drove back up to the shop hoping there still working on the car, Nope, Motor's in already an the Mech left for the day..The New custom made steering shaft's in, Silicone hose's on ,some new AN fitting for intake, Alternator an Turbo's next along with all the sensors hooked back up, Spaghetti city!! After reading a thread today on oil pan height with dropped pan,Looks like my Trans. pans' even lower,I know more when the car together an on the ground. Hopefully i won't have any issues with the tight Susp. i run. All the hard plastic trim's being painted an the Dash swap-out still in the works.
-
6-4-12 , The Snails mounted, GT-71 3 bolt sneaky sneaky Turbo,Can't read the numbers on the injector harness so ordered new one, Needed it anyway, was the Origianl with over 100,000 miles,6 motor's in an out..heh
-
6-15-12 , The rear assembly's going together,I went ahead an ordered new front turn markers an signal lights,I can't find a New rear impact bumper strips or the small lower fronts!!,Guess everyone's been hit in the arse, i never have but i have pushed cars , so got new front main. For now i'll just use my original one in the back, it only as one or two goobers on it. The GBodyParts.com Dash is in , What a difference -vs- the Cap,Thanks Brain Side mirrors are on, i swapped out the passenger adjustable from the dash for a manual adjustment.
XFI's at FAST being programed an updated. When it returns i find out how to attach the Speed Sensor on the currie 9". Still removing the front windshield. Getting Limo tint an strip like whats on the front now.I pulled a rear window out of a Cutless that had defrost to replace my rear that had a hole in the top for 80's cellphone jack (I bought this car used in 90' with 62,000 miles,$11,300 after my 86 got totalled, I "was" in passenger seat)
-
6-18-12 ,Paid the rest on the car,Rears going together an hopfully by next post the whole car will be assembled,Picked up the dash cap an will have for sale at the end this build along with Alot other parts an pieces.
-
6-25-12 Update!! Cars nose is on. Intercooler an Radiator been sprayed with sneaky sneaky heat dispersant paint. All the parts are in. Only thing left to get is set "custom" rate springs, 1" drop in front, 2" in the rear (The BMR control arms dropped front an 1" already). Currently with more steel parts still to be added, the car sits 10 inches (from behind front wheel) off the ground an 11 3/4" (measured in front the rear wheel) in the rear. Not making a asphalt scrapper but lowering enough for stability for constant jaunts at over 100mph +. 8^)
-
6-29-12 ,519 hours in the build...So much for the car being all together already..the assembly's in slow motion..The Rad an Intercooler are in,still straightening core support,,nothing fancy on the sound system, just alpine cd deck an good speakers all around. I go back in a week,Still have to pull the 9" chunk out an have custom yoke made for the traction control sensor (mines to big at 2.5" ),but that's all the hard parts,Last issue i might have after completion is wiring bugs,(The XFI,GNX Dash,Alky,Voltbooster,Newly added XFI boost solenoid )
-
7-6-12, The cars basically all together now, Working out the turbo inlet an out let routing now,(the out-let hits the GN1 duel fan assembly) Adding the core support frame brace,re-fiberglassing my old KB lower front spoiler back together ( i hit a parking curb while back an it took the middle out) The cooler hanging between the intercooler pipes is a oil cooler. The 9" chunk i drove to Advanced Driveline of Florida, there reducing the yoke size to 2.188" from 2.50" so the traction control collar fits. I go back in week.......
-
7-18-12 ,Well...I thought i just had a seal leak in the currie 9", Wrong, it's toast, the gears are burnt an knife edged. Getting the unit fixed. Was just re-built with less then 3 months on street driving only.Found the bolt-in currie 9" are only good to 435hp.... The Front Lower Spoilers fixed an being mounted.(made to look like i still a Stock Location Intercool,It's the Oil cooler you see) I went correlated Radiator hoses, easier to route away from heat an the ribs offer some more cooling. the front an rear frame braces are mounted, I await the rear-end now then it's back in busniess..
-
8-13-12 Update!! The Punkin Chunkens built ! Bulletproof, billet, detroit locker with traction control !! Same 3:20 gearing . Ordering Q1A's all around, got tired looking for custom height an rate springs. Now i'll be autocross spring rated with adjustable height an valved shocking....On ly have to work out all the clearance issues (exhaust,ATR rear sway bar, etc, etc) All the frame bracing's in except the two that go over the motor to the windshield from left an right fender corners. The Fiberglass KB lower scoops fixed an mounted along with the turbo inlet an outlets. The build continues..... ...

Nope found him online, I visited over 20 neer by shops an put other est. out on-line,This was the only guy that could produce an Warranty the finish product i was after,No runs,no sanding marks,no debris trash in paint, all panel match in color,etc,etc...He does allow you to help out anyway you can to save some money. This is an open check build pretty much till it's completed.
Enjoy!

He told me but i forget the name, right at the end the build, (Hopfully in less 2 months)I'll post All the info on the build including the paint brands an processes.
Enjoy!

If it matters. The color/paint used to increase radiation doesn't do anything.
Now there is a paint that is designed to absorb longwave radiation and convert it to heat.....
http://www.builditsolar.com/Experimental/PaintAbsorbancy/GlossvsFlat.htm (http://www.builditsolar.com/Experimental/PaintAbsorbancy/GlossvsFlat.htm)
It performs almost as well as plain ole flat black :)
-
Yep
Bruce the science guy:
actually, there is a lot of reason not to paint it black
it should be running at around 350K. That makes its thermal emission
peak at about 8.4 microns.
this is mid infrared... so to enhance heat loss, it's fine to paint it
with somethng that has high emmisivity in the mid infra-red. You can
be fairly sure that black paint is not such a material. Neither is
anodising but sandblasting may work well.
-
8-27-12, The rear's being mocked for the new rear custom built Q1'a, Front's are in an Done!! Battery's going in the spare tire holder then i'll get a trunk kit to hide it. Now i'm debating the seat upholstery. Go Leather stock color's or stay stock colored cloth...it's $200 difference, but with the leather kit you get the rear side an front side door panel material too...It's almost ready for the first fire-up!!! Opps, totaly forgot to ask about heat dispersant paint,I'll get the name an brand next trip ;^)
-
Very nice, thanks for the update!
-
9-5-12 ,The Rear's been mocked an being assembled an checked for straightness,The battery box is in (adding a fake one in front to hide relays an the Alky pump). Once it's rolling again an battery's in it it's time to Power it up an debug anything found. It's about that time to Call goddess Holly for Cal....The Xfi's been 2.0 updated an traction control installed. To make sure i dont screw the pouch i'm have Cal Hartline go over the car before first fire, then hopefully fire it an go for some test drives, I can't dyno it yet till i break in the brand new gear's in the rear, so'll we'll just do drivability test an knowing me do one full throttle hwy run at 22psi.
-
Excellent - love the updates!

looks great dude

The Paint is from http://www.techlinecoatings.com/ (http://www.techlinecoatings.com/)
It's called Cilgen Thermal Dispersent paint. (After reading about it, Now you can't Spray Graffiti on my intercooler,Great for trips to the "Hood" ...lol)

I moved it to the correct forum.
I have spoken to George about the CFGNNTYPE club moving their "home" from turbobuicks.co m to here - he said he is considering it.

12-16-12,An it's dead again, On a bug hunt, The car backfired on roadtest an has never ran right since,Compression test is ok, but the car no matter's what's done won't come out of a retarded running condision.chec king EST circit or i twisted the cam. 8^(
-
you may have popped the 3bar map sensor with the backfire , does it still read 0 kpa key on
pull the cam sensor cap and check the reluctor disc , its probably spinning
thats mostlikely the cause for the backfire
-
This glitch is a real pain/pin in the arse...I've replaced "all" the sensor's,coil pack Ign.module, Checked compression (all at or just over 150),harmonic balancer/ring,cam sensor ring, ran through as much senor wiring as could be had. Had Julio from Alky Systems out, Had Cal out from Hartline perf. out. Now i've sent the XFI back to F.A.S.T. The issue is no communication from XFI to the IGN. Module for advancing. If the box's circuitreys good, It has to be a harness issue somewhere. I've spent $2000 trying to find the problem,an i'm almost there....I should find out Monday if the Box is good,F.A.S.T was hooking it to a Buick GN they have there Yesterday. Out of everything that can cause this issue i have it down to XFI box (bad circuit) ,Harness issue (pin 15),or Cam key-way issue (twisted the cam)....The Cam will be the last on the list (in that case, i'll be yanking the motor....) I await word....

This whole time it's the........::: Ignition Module ::::
What you say??? Yes an confirmed (much as possible)
Hate to say it, but i dragged Cal out again with a Bonus of Holly is assistant .
After some diagnosing
We put the Old Ign. unit back-in, Car Fired Right Up..Nice an Smooth...***But****..It is the Old unit an after 10-15 min, run time....***Zip***...No ign. fire/stall.
So, my first Ign. Mod was just on it's way out..( Would only run the car 20 min or less )
The #$%$^*^& Brand New one an Coil pack I thought i got from Cottons (have to dig the receipt out)
Is Bad or at least won't work with XFI what so ever... ( Wouldn't run the Car at ALL... )
So the score is One Ignition Module on the way out, The New replacement bad from the get go,A Third New ones on order an will arrive in 2 days,An Acdelco unit from Acdelco.
Cottens ad said this new one i got was Acdelco, apparently not, Kirbens site says off-brand,so does HwyStars, ....Beware....
Who stock's a no BS original ACDeclco OEM Buick Turbo Ignition Module ??????
-
I didnt have an issue with my coil pack and module i got from nos4gn.com. You probably just got one out of a bad bunch. Good luck with the car tho! Hope you get it running soon man. You've been having issues for a while with this car.

go with bob bailey TR6 setup
http://www.bailey-eng.com/tr6/ (http://www.bailey-eng.com/tr6/)
ac delco is a crap shoot i dont care who you get it from they are all overseas made and no different from the carquest brand
get the caspers tester and test the module, coilpack and wires... and test them often .
http://www.casperselectronics.com/store2/product_info.php?products_id=607 (http://www.casperselectronics.com/store2/product_info.php?products_id=607)
and they sell adapters to test the spark operation through your wires

Yep,already mentioned the LS1 coils route to Cal,I'm going to run around for couple months as is for now till i at least brake the car in more, (rear end, suspention, etc, etc) Thnks for that tester link,It'll be on the list next week,i've seen them before n Now know there worth...

Yeah, no kidding. Nothing like spending tonnes of money on stuff you don't need, to try to impress a bunch of people you don't know. :chin:
Either this guy has really deep pockets, or one serious line of credit.

Has John modified his coil tester so that it will work on a non AC Delco coil pack?

Yeah, no kidding. Nothing like spending tonnes of money on stuff you don't need, to try to impress a bunch of people you don't know. :chin:
Either this guy has really deep pockets, or one serious line of credit.
It's other peoples pockets. He took a brand new engine knowing ran it lean, blew it up and then stayed in it. Then sued the engine builder (that built him a race engine) for fraud and got $30K.
Now he's got other guys on the ropes trying to figure out how to make a street legal racecar idiot proof.
This guy takes checkbook hotrodding to the next level.
-
the AutoZone/Wells ignition modules dont test on the Casper tester
-
Pretty sure the Standard brand does not either...Last time I asked John, only the AC would work. Once he said he was going to offer a new version that would work on all brands, but, I never saw it.
-
Does the tester not physically hook up or are the inner nuts and bolts different so the tester speaks a different language?
-

Just Burns your Hide don't it...lol...Ain't nobody on the ropes if i got what i paid for. Me having to go over an Fix other peoples payed work don't cut-it in my World. (you only know what i've typed, You know nothing about me or my GN) I don't work for free Either....

This Car i bought in 90' after a chick totaled my 86' GN. You want Speed out these Cars with reliability it cost, Used parts cost you more in the long run if try that route.Every thing on my car has a purpose an function. My car's now totally restored less the Frame an under carriage, Which is last on my priorities since it's a Driver. The car is also totally equipped to handle what i prefur to throw at it, Less the 109 motor. Many Many Mech. have ripped me off, That's the only Serious cost expenditure i've encountered. ($50,000 in all over the last 12 years from muiltipul differant shops)
In the new member section is the Long Version of this story "Bozo in a Buick:...My goal on this car is Pure Factory Appearing GNX Ext/Int. with 9.90 et drivetrain an Supercar handling.

You could save yourself being taken advantage of, a load of heart ache, and ultimately become responsible for your own car and the work done to it, by learning to build and fix it yourself.
As someone who actively races his Buick in auto-x you are miles away from handling like any supercar in your GN. But, call me when you achieve that lofty goal.

Have you considered a SBC motor?

Yea, i'm buy a dyno, make my garage a machine shop, the kitchen the building room, the bedroom the programing department.... ..Just like you own 4 wheel scales, spring rate tester,4 set's different compound tires for varying surfaces an laser alignment machine...You didn't read the Bozo in Buick story...i do the work my self now,...Even at the shop it's in now. Something's aren't a one person job.
I've read your build,My Car's set far an above your capibilities/adjustability's, It's ready to line up next to your grocery market parking lot set-up when your ready...LOL... you can Post your Skip-pad G's at any time...

Have you considered a SBC motor?
Not in this car, keeping it as original Buick as possible with the pieces,109,200r4,Int./Ext.,Had to do the 9" rear, nothing else would hold-up.
I had 400SB .060 over half block poured,bolt-on aftermarket heads, with a 635/310 roller in all steel less the hood 73 Camaro running 10.80 street tires/full exhuast/stock suspenion before i brought this GN back out of storage in 2000. I'm after MPG an Speed now.
I'm tempted to do 25-1 regal, time will tell,my plates to full at the moment.

You are right. Some jobs simply are too much for just one person; that is when I call up a friend. But, money can't buy those... can they, Champ?
All the parts in the World can't make up for a lack of skill. I look forward to the law suit/rant against your chosen tire company when you over drive your car into a pole or ditch; or if we are really fortunate off a cliff.
