Title: Hot Rod/Duttweiler T/A block buildup
Post by: 87natty on January 24 2006, 12:56:49 AM
Alright kids, here's the article from the February 2006 about the all aftermarket Buick motor they made. My gripe? $35,000 for 700hp? I hope he can sit down after that reaming...

Nice, but since it's not stock anymore at that point, I'd spend half of that and go with a 572 crate motor.

Not sure who the owner is but according to the article it's going in a sand rail! [schild=18 fontcolor=FF0000 shadowcolor=C0C0C0 shieldshadow=1]HOLY SHIT![/schild]

I doubt that theres any connection, but Jason Cramer is into sand rails.
I'm sure that there must be some kind of misprint though. $35,000 for
700 hp ! I've seen guys spend half that for twice the hp. TA rates those
blocks for 3,000 hp, but nobody has ever proven that. I have no doubts
that Kenny can do better than 700 hp.

Oh yeah, I remember that. I'm not exactly sure what a sand rail is but if there like the huge go-carts (no disrespect) they run on the riverbeds... :rofl; DAAAAM!!!

I think, in the future, thoes guys are going to make "there is no replacement for displacement" a myth.

With any kind of boosted type of application, you're actually
increasing displacement. I remember reading somewhere, that
a 231cid Buick V6 @ 16 lbs of boost is equivalent to a 488cid
naturally aspirated big block because they both are moving the same
volume of air.

Yup! I forgot what racing series puts them in the same class as big blocks, I think it's IHRA.

Even in naturaly aspirated form, they ran with V8's in the Busch Series.

There are some good calculators on Jack Merkel's site.  The one shows displacement with different boost.

http://www.merkelengines.com/

231 ci with 16lbs = 482.43 ci   use the (turbo versus NA) in the menu.

He also has a decent write-up for a LC2 rebuild.

it was a well written article, super hot motor, but the price seems alittle off, block alone is 4g's
