I was watching a Buick 350 build on HorsePower TV and saw something I hadn't heard of before.

Since the Buick rod ends don't have locating "sleeves" like Chevy - they mentioned that the caps can get offset a tiny bit, and cause friction between adjacent rods. They used a torque wrench to test the amount of torque needed to rotate the assembly, then, after aligning the caps, they used the torque wrench again to test the amount of torque needed to rotate the assembly, and it was much less after aligning the caps.
Is this something that should be done when rebuilding a Buick motor?

Nope. 100% horseshit.
If the rod caps can be that out of whack, the bolts are WAAAAAAY messed up. I think my side clearance is .045" on #6..... Be kinda hard for a cap to hang that far out with less than .002" bearing clearance. (we have split pin cranks too. no shared journals for us).

That's what I thought. I figured the rob bolts do the locating of the cap.
