Title: Next batch of upgrades...
Post by: gordyzx9r on April 09 2011, 07:54:37 AM
Picked up a set of Champion GN1 Iron Heads, ARP Bolts, PTE Turbo Saver, and an RJC Hybrid Boost Controller...

Would like to get a pre-luber as well but can't decide which route to go:

The first link doesn't look like a pre-luber - there's no pump that I can see.

I can't remember the name for it, but isn't the fist one something that provide oil pressure for a short time in the event of severe pressure drop?

Or is it a pre-luber in the sens is stores pressurized oil for the next start up?

It stores oil and releases it when the car initially starts...I, personally, think it is not really needed for prelubing as there is no load on the bearings when the car runs at an idle and pressure begins to rise just on the cranking process.  I guess observing cars run more than 200k miles makes me think this is more marketing than fact?

The kits are expensive.  Bill Ragland is going to do my heads and he has pre-luber system that he made himself on his car.  I think he only recommends it to people who's cars tend to sit for for awhile (read:  garage queens).  A couple of the vendors sell the ESP kit but I don't see paying that much for that compared to the other system or having Bill put on his homebrew system.  Though, reading it somewhat it sounds like some people get a pre-luber and what can only be described as a post luber.  If it's the proverbial snake oil then I'll just save the $ for something else but my car does tend to sit for weeks at a time.
