Was sent to Anton CO to pick up at some little Co op hellhole. Totally farm nightmare out there on the plains. Type of town with a grain silo, two singlewides and a post office. Anyway, they load up my trailer by dumping two big piles of some bird seed lookin' shit on the floor of the trailer. I'm wondering how in the hell the consignee is gonna get this stuff out of there...? I guy with a fucking broom? A guy in a Bobcat and THEN a guy with a broom? Hmm. Well, this afternoon I got to the consignee in the nasty ol' industrial area near the center of Kansas City. Giant, eroding concrete silos/elevators, etc. The guy in the scale house has mepark on the scale and get out. I'm waiting for him to weigh the fucking thing when he just picks up my truck and dumps it out like a goddamned salt shaker. Maybe next time somebody'll give me a heads up so that I can put some stuff away rather than having it all tumble to the rear of the sleeper. I seriously have never seen that shit done before...

Yup was pretty common to see those up here.
Most of them have been shut down by the safety freaks in recent years.

If you see Sylvan in his semi - pick it and him up and swing him/it into the nearest building. Deal?
-
Yeah, do it!

Ok a little harsh.
I like safety too, but also some common sense.

I can understand your reaction, I see alot at Cope's Corn near my shop, they do the same thing. Maybe if you come to Lancaster Co. PA, give me a call and I'll warn you of the weird shit here. When I went thru Kansas it seemed like it had just the one hiway going thru it with Steak restaurants, grain elevators, and a prison. Couldn't wait to get to Colo. I don't see how you truck driver's do it.
-
I see you're driving a Volvo... My Dad drives for Ashley Furniture, he drives a Volvo also. Seems to like the fully automatic transmission after 30 years of grinding the gears.
Aren't Swift trucks governed on speed like Schnieders orange road cones??

Talking safety I've run a moble crane 28 years. The bull shit we have to go through just to set up and make a lift on a job site have so greatly changed it's almost unbeliveable.y ou have to have a prelift meeting with distances. working load limits, degree calulations of boom angle. max lift capasity, persentage of max capasity of the crane per lift.I get tickled these young educated collage safety guys have know idea of the actual operation of the crane just what they have read.I allways tell them the only thing they need to know is about that one main lever.they say what lever is that? I say leave her alone.

I wonder what genius came up with that?!?!

I remember watching Smokey and the Bandit and asking my dad "Is that what its like when you go to work?" And he says "Yep, Every week!"
I then went on a long trip with him... Not once did we have a guy running blocker for a trailer full of furniture  :D :D
Governed at 62 mph? They should change the name of the company to something other than "Swift". Of course, Ashley's rig's are governed at 67 mph. When Dad got his recent truck, they forgot to do the programming to govern it. He made 3 trips before they caught up to him.
-
boy that would suck not being able to go faster then that I would be a traffic haszard mine was a 460hp mack engine 13 speed road ranger 85 mph at 2300 rpm will run 74 in 12th so I can keep speed up to make all the hills(truck weighs 49800 emtpy) i wish i had a automatic though sure sucks shifting allday picking up and dropping off stuff
-
lol, you are driving one of those slow-assed trucks that are always gettin' in my way.
-
For DCEPTCN,
Here's a photo of my Dad's latest rig. It was given to him when he surpassed his 2 million miles of Safe Driving.

When your special, you get your truck with all the stainless steel trim, and the lettering on the sleeper in silver.
-
Would have been funny if someone were asleep in the sleeper! :D

yup they do alot of unloading like that. normally they do it in tipper trailers. they look like live floor trailers. they mostly do trash and grain like that.
-
The above Volvo has the 'condo' sleeper which is bigger than mine...those things are cozy!

gary.. last time i was in lancaster i was delivering italian ices to a cold storage place by the hearrs (or whateveR) potato chip place. it was foggy and i almost had a heart attack because a fucking horse and buggy was clip clopping past me. i was half awake..
and as any driver can tell you.. if you drive a cross 80.. its a KILLER. might be the worst.
the worst part about driving is when you got the damn asshole cowboy drivers flying around dipping in and out of traffic and you having to deal with staying out of their way.
-
Herr's Potato Chips, right. near me. shoulda looked me up, gave me a reason to get out of the shop. Horse and buggies are treacherous on the roads, but really can't do alot about them. I can't stand driving anymore, my wife usually does the driving. She won't drive the motorhome and trailer though, I have to suffer through the tailgaters, people pulling right out in front of me, zig-zaggers, people too slow in front when your trying to get speed up a grade.... My wife says I can't bring my 357 along. Like I said, I don't see how you guys do it.
-
this was like 5 years ago. as far as the other stuff.. its part of the job.
