Does anybody know what's going on back at TBS??? Red Revline something or other seems to be knew owners????
-
No idea - pretty crazy post too, nothing about what's going on with it. I wonder if they are affiliated with Autoforums.etc .
-
Lol, it took what, 2 weeks for Vertical Scope to give up and cut their losses?
That's comical.
-
I guess Jung found out he bought a empty shoe box and passed it on.
-
I wonder who is really behind it.
They are another message board conglomerate - that explains the boilerplate introduction email.
Or, it may all be a sham, I dunno. The "87" in the username is interesting - registered in 09 on TBS, and it's the same one used on the other boards. Doubt it's a bot - the join dates on the various boards are similar, but not the same. Possibly bought a chunk of Autoforums? All of the intro posts were done over a 3-4 hour period, very un-bot like.
Revtoredline Google Search (http://www.google.com/search?q=revtoredline&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=sYZ&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&&sa=X&ei=7i4nTZnNOI66sAOxmJjEBw&ved=0CBUQvgUoAA&q=revtoredline&nfpr=1&fp=9bef8cda26d1a6ec)
This doesn't bode well. :D

I just want a penny for each one of my posts over there...or the ability to erase them all
-
You won't get them, they are in the Turbo Hall of Fame. :psix; You gotta start all over again. :atbeer: :atbeer:
-
lol! I just went over there and got all ready to start a new thread on jow I just bought the board from redline and you all are banned so go boink yourselves.
I chickened out though, lol! I'm enough of a retard as it is, rather than showing I'm that bored right now
I pretty much knew nothing of mike savino cept I liked the way he ran his board. but sure wish he would've let everybody in on what was going on.
lol, I wonder if he talked it up big time with vertical scope and figured he'd never get that much money from one of us, then took the money and ran
-
It could all be bullshit - who knows.
-
It's all history to me....and I gots lotsa history
-

Seems kinda shitty that you can't at least ERASE the posts.
-
As soon as it's known that the site is corporate owned I will send a cease and desist letter from my lawyer to remove or not allow any of my tech posts to be viewed without paymet to me.

I wonder if license to the posts transfers once you signup and post.
-
The way I understand it you own the post and it's contents so the board owners can't be sued for content. Board owners can't have it both ways. So the post writer can demand to have it taken down or be paid for it's contents after a given timed letter as per my research.

hmm thread gone.

hmm thread gone.
Yep - I have a feeling it was a spam post of some sort. I can't figure out why someone would do that. It's odd.
-
I call spam to drive traffic to his site.
-
hmm thread gone.
Where did it go?? What a way to kill something for good. Asshole.

I have to assume the admin over there deleted it, as it was spam.

Last week I sent Yung a PM asking about purchasing the site.
Re: When and if the new owners are ready to sell
Thanks for the feedback Gordy. Honestly, we're in here for the long haul. We'll see how things turn out and if you have any suggestions for me to make this place better than before, I'm all ears.

tell him yes.. to sell it back to a gn owner.

What thread were they in?

grumpy's I thought, looked back. Must have been the original missing thread, El Spamo dick. Between work, employees wanting off early, and a sick waste oil burner, I was farting a brain :redfaced;

Yea but the board and the community would have been better off if he did sell to SGRIM but that's just my opinion

Maybe he didn't sell to him out of spite. I dunno.
Either way, they are still connected, if the other admin there still works for the same company.
-
I just can't see it being that valuable compared to tb.com. It wasn't getting much traffic. I imagine the sale would be based something on how traffic and revenue from the vendors. I've read that websites can be worth from 2 to 6 times their annual revenue...but it also has to take into account demand and relevance.

I thought it was JayC that worked for them and not Grimsley
-
I thought it was JayC that worked for them and not Grimsley
Correct - but Jay has a hand in many sites, especially TB.com.
He's an enterprenuer, to be sure.
-
I thought it was JayC that worked for them and not Grimsley
That's true. But Shane tried to purchase the site on his own.
-
I just can't see it being that valuable compared to tb.com.
-
I bet TB's.com only has around 200 members today. Even TB.com is way out of wack and maybe only has a few thousand.

The silver lining here is that this is the greatest trolling opportunity of all time.

That's thinking outside the box, [strike]yung[/strike] young man.
-
That's the thing I hate about it: the lost tech...
I've been searching for while on TB.com for something today that I know I would have found right away on TBS.com.
Sucks :(
-
I wonder if there is any way to get "wayback" to fully index/archive the site?
-
It's all history to me....and I gots lotsa history
and if that board stays up, and all post intact..... then all those post will only continue helping tb guys out for a long long time :prayer:

but i don't think we need 3 tb.coms

Nuh-uh. That's all I'm gonna say about that.

Racism on tb? Wow.
I just don't like Shane on a personal level from way back when the t6p shit went down is all. I honestly couldn't comment on how well or how poorly he runs a Buick BB.
-
here is what pisses me off...No heads up to core members that made the site what it was. To even offer it for sale. Then I have sent Mike PM's with no response...eve n in reference to the BPG site as that is hosted by Jigawatt. I will continue to support the MAGNA and Toronto Section and will respond to my posts...but will offer no tech info...not that it was worth anything...but I have pointed people in the direction to find help...TBS was fun
-
I can help you find a new host, should you want to change. Not responding to pms, etc about the hosting is plain wrong.
-
I will not post there under any circumstances. Such sites sell advertising space and basically use the board membership as free labor. Bullshit, and to hell with that notion, I say (in earnest and with all due forthright honesty).
-
Racism on tb? Wow.
You have to read between the lines sometimes to find it. Someone there recently made a post wishing that movie theaters should be segregated so they wouldn't have to worry about black people. I said something about not realizing Governor Wallace drove a Turbo Regal.
-
I think I pissed Mike off

For some reason I just wanted to type HEMCO BITCH! Or something like that...I dunno.
-
Y'know, Mike might be unhappy about letting the board go himself, just the money was too good to turn down. I don't know, just trying to play devil's advocate and be slow to throw a guy under the bus. Could someone enlighten me as to what he might be referencing when he says that the negativity may have driven him off?
-
there seemed to be in the last year or so a ton of the main posters that just kinda stopped posting. I guess i never really noticed what it was that drove them off.
-
I stopped going there a long time ago simply 'cause A: I like this board more and, B: It kept forgetting who I was, necessitating excrutiating re-registrations.

I thought he was talking about last year when he had problems with an alternator he sold.
-

I won't go into details but he didn't like it when we subjected him to the same critizism we would hang onto any other product or vendor. Snakeoil is snakeoil.
Mike gave it hard to others and got pissed when he was called out by some of the senior guru's.

Is this about the stock alternator amperage versus his alternators amperage?

More or less. Also the real need for 200+ amps. The stock alt or the 140amp alt will handle 99% of all needs for our cars. This statement cut into his claims. Also he was confused by engine speed (crank pulley) and alt shaft speed.
-
To add to what I posted above. I won't be part of a Americian or Canadian owned corporate board. Why should I spill out my 45 yrs of automotive knowledge for free so they can make money. I do it for free and will do it here or by email or on the phone.
-
As Ed stated, Mike made several claims regarding alternator performance that were pure b.s. from a technical stance and was called on them.
At the time, it was not known he was the force behind PowerBastards alternators, but, a little research into complaints filed with the BBB as well as on other forums turned up his ownership.
It was clear that despite his claims to not being a vendor, he was. He did not appreciate his technical statements being disproved and stomped off.
He ran a good board for a number of years, and, it will be missed.
Like Ed, whatever little I know is available to anyone that I can help without charge.

Damn - I have one of his 200A upgrade kits in my TR. Should I worry?
Also - I am VERY honored to have such tech talent posting here!

No real problem with the quality that I know of. You just can add a 5000 watt amp and weld fences now
-
I need some welding done... I'm on my way over. :supz:
-
My car is sans Savino since I busted the starter I bought from him while pulling the motor. Bad Sylvan.

Car still has flaky voltage output at idle - did before I did the upgrade.

Me too...and a mini-starter. On the Scanmaster, I did notice an increase in voltage though...but the alternator that was replaced was the stock one and I also had all new Casper battery cables put in too.
What was funny was when I had someone replace my fuel pump and do a couple of other things. They told me it would be a good idea to put on a Red's Volt Booster...Stev e had allot of great things to say about that (I've since removed it).
-
have had no issues with his mini starter...had a 200amp unit that flaked out asked if I could have him fix it...no response ...oh well nice guy got 240 unit only to find out I needed a new serpentine belt...would of been nice to have a heads upon that...there were a few posts that we...Ed SW myself called him out on....tha Alt sticks out like a sore thumb...the other was a ground issue he had with his RX7...oh well I have SW and Eds home # so I can call anytime...lol
-
I bought a couple of mini starters...the y are cheap imports...they work okay, but there is a piece of plastic in them that breaks and renders them inoperative with a backfire.
The alternators are just imported parts like many that we see sold everywhere. The simple fact is that, as Ed pointed out, very few need more amps....as long as your amp is capable of putting out 13.5v with everything going while driving, then it has plenty of power.
Remember, the scantool does not necessarily reflect the voltage being supplied by the alternator...a nd, that as an alternator gets old, it may not supply as much as it did originally because the diodes are old and have been subjected to heat for years...does not mean you need a bigger one, just that the old one is getting tired.
Need to write a bit for the tech section on the subject, I think
-
Steve, when you write your tech section, figure in why anybody even wants a 200A alternator. Rear window defroster(so when we drive these cars in the snow), mini starter ( which uses gear reduction to an advantage) and 7,000lb lnjectors (to go really fucking fast) and than I will understand the major load requirements. Oh, and a boom box.
-
I did a major alternaror writeup for Steve site but it's still in the proofread and shorten stage. As Steve said maybe it's time to twaek it and get it posted.
On another note if you did have a system that needed all that amperage his CS130 base cases are too small and will self-destruct over a short time. That is why you see high amperage units with big heat sink vented cases for double the price. Pulling a max of around 85amps out of a typical Buick won't tax his small case unit.

Yea and a generator hook up to power your house when the power transformer get's hit by a car

That is some crazy shit going on over there. I went over there a long time ago, then always had problems with log in's so I never went there. This was my board and still is. :supz:

None of that even comes close to making one need a a 200 amp alternator other than possibly a 1000 watt system...and then , one does not need one of these overdriven alternators that will soon burn up because they cannot handle the heat. For serious system use, one needs an alternator with external rectifiers to try to cope with the heat that is generated.
Again, if your car is making enuf voltage to keep the battery charged at idle for long periods of time (say 13.0v) and around 13.5 v at cruise/wide open throttle on a volt meter (not a scantool), then the alternator is sufficient. Note that the battery acts as a buffer with plenty of stored amps for normal idle periods.
If your stock alternator gets tired, then replace it with the Impala 140 amp unit which is the second generation, improved version of our CS 144s.
This is what I turned Ed's write up into...about three times as long as he originally wrote....might be too much of a rant, tho...
http://www.vortexbuicks-etc.com/alternatorselection.htm
I see some of these guys selling alternators are putting smaller pulleys on them trying to get more amps out at idle...maybe savino is not the only one that does not understand the difference between alternator rpm and engine rpm?
