A few months ago I had never heard of it and now I can't seem to turn on a radio or TV without hearing all about it. All I've been able to figure is that it's a 'site where regular, boring people whom you've never met and don't give a shit about will post updates all day long about what they're doing.

Yeah? I gives a shit! Certainly that can't be what that website actually is or else the world really has been taken over by aliens and I'll need to get special glasses like Rowdy Roddy Piper had in 'They Live'. I hope that's how you spell his name.
