Title: PowerLogger....one of the neat things I like
Post by: Steve Wood on June 29 2009, 04:38:18 PM
try, try, again

One of the things I like about PowerLogger is the ability to log and display data from sensors external to the ECM if one has them installed.

here is a screenshot showing fuel pressure, boost, wide band O2, and EGT.  This makes it easy to improve troubleshootin g.

Makes it easy to catch a bad fuel pump, or a tuning problem, etc.

Looks like you're running quite a bit fat from that graph. That is cool though.
I almost bought a direct scan setup in BG, although that looks more useful.

not mine, but, it is way fat....just a good example of the extra stuff that can be useful.

He was trying to figure out why his fp lacked a couple of psi of being where it should have been after swapping pumps, regulators, used three different gauges, etc.

Bigger problem seemed to be what was happening to his fueling....def initely not short of fuel.

Another thing many over look is that leaded race gas and unleaded fuel
produce optimum power at different stochiometric ratios. I bet that alcohol
is likely different as well.

What's involved for the install of a Power Logger? Seems like I'd need a electric FP gauge and a wideband at the least, right?

PowerLogger installs on the engineering port of the ECM just like Direct Scan did.  You don't need anything else for it to work, but, it has an analog connection block that plugs into it and this is where other inputs can connect to it.

If you want to install a wide band, the analog output of the wb goes to the connection block.  If you want to log boost, you connect the map sensor to the block.  Same with egt, fuel pressure, or whatever.  Fuel pressure requires a sender from Caspers or Autometer and it screws into the rail.  No gauge is required, it is displayed on the PL log.  You could run an electrical gauge if you wanted to.

Wideband can be displayed on the log and thru the scanmaster...o r you can add a gauge as well.

Boost, the same way...SM, PL, and a guage.

Feeding PL into the scanmster speeds up the display rate to five times a second and adds wb, egt, boost, and map to it beyond the normal...if you have those functions and they are wired in.

You will not regret it...very useful once you understand just how much info is available.

I have one with fuel, boost etc. etc. Next is alchy pressure with a spare sender I have. Just T off the eletic fuel sender to PL so you have in car to see while logging it.
Eric's 6.0 chip makes it so easy.
If I can hook it all up then anyone can!!  :bigeyes;

How many total sensors can be added to it?  :question;

Mine showed up today and is still packed in the box,  got it on sale.   :cool;

I know 2 extra connections for sure. Thats aside from boost.

Boost & wideband with 2 fuel/pressure ports.

How do I edit a post here??
